Next in is Ki's mk1 3s-gte powered beasty....rev2 clip this one with a chargecooler to boot....should be tasty!

Heres ki's car...

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2008/04/52.jpg

And the horribleness that exists in the engine bay currently...

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2008/04/53.jpg

Later on it was all disconnected....

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2008/04/54.jpg

And soon after on the floor....

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2008/04/55.jpg

Then off with the battery tray and engine mounts....

Lots to come including an engine bay repaint in the same colour as the car

Chargecoolers ftw?

Paul Woods
08-04-2008, 06:41
jack ,chargecoolers sit on top of the engine instead of an intercooler, they water cool the intake charge instead of an air cooled intercooler set up.

rattymr2
08-04-2008, 10:46
and you get a mahoosive amount of boost at 3K. normal intercooler you get about 4-5 psi, on my charge cooled set up it is about 12psi boost (every time too not just 1st and 2nd plant of the foot). cant read the gauge as need to keep eyes on road.

hate the colour of Ki's car though. Black ffs.

First time i have been on since dropping it off, aleays wondered what it would be like watching my own car being given the woodsport treatment!!

Dead excited about this, especially since it will be my second 1.5, i kinda know what to look forward to...
Just sorry my car is so dirty after the drive up!

Ratty mate i know how you hate black cars, thats why i did it !!

The petrol tank was also dropped and the old 4age pump removed....

Also the engine and gearbox were removed from the half clip ki delivered a few months ago....

rattymr2
08-04-2008, 21:01
is ki having a new head gasket going on. if so will it be a cometic one as i am sure he is planning future mods.

Paul Woods
09-04-2008, 06:54
you mean a MLS one? ive spoken to ki about this and his future mods,a stock fibre gasket will be fine, the mating surfaces on a MLS gasket have got to be perfect, block too...ive heard of people having lots of problems using them.So we will replace the gasket with a good quality fibre one.

Can somebody translate this in Dutch? ;)

Can somebody translate this in Dutch? ;)

Basically means it will look really good! dogs boolax

To quote Oxford English Dictionary;
informal; bollocks; meaning testicles, hanging items between a male dog's legs. eg "Wow mate, you shoehorned a 6.3 litre Chevvy V8 into an MR2 and twin-turbo'd it! That is the dogs bollocks"

At least i think that's what it says?

Or in true Dutch a la freetranslation.com

Achtervolgt testikels

Paul Woods
10-04-2008, 18:49
today we got the boot wall finished and everything seam sealed up...

Also stripping of ki's turbo engine began...

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2008/04/98.jpg

Only to reveal a bit of a problem, loads of oil poured out of numbers 2 and 3 cylinders when we took the plenum off....suspected catastrophic turbo seal failure,we will know more when the head comes off but for now it looks like it needs a replacement blower.

Is this a CT26 or a CT20?

Either way, I'd go for a replacement CT20, hold more boost for longer. Give Ki some staggering performance

Paul Woods
10-04-2008, 19:29
ct26 J.... niks old ct26 is here which we have permish to use,so that might be what happens, all pending the outcome of the head removal of course

dgh938peg
10-04-2008, 20:32
That's a sh1t-load of oil! Not good

rattymr2
11-04-2008, 09:55
or go for a CT26 hybrid. there is one on the bay at mo for £309 it looks like an xs power one

Tom G
11-04-2008, 09:56
that could be a good thing - CT20 are soo much better, CT26 are such a bottleneck, will give you 0.7bar max at high revs - not so good! there must be one floating about on imoc/gt4oc edit: or the hybrid
Will be watching the chargecooler install with interest

Spot on J.

Thats what I'd go for. GT2860RS. Quicker spool than either of the CT's but with the potential to make over 350 at the wheels. Got to be a no brainier if you can afford it... ;)

11-04-2008, 18:24
Oi! less of the rusty wedge mr J:moon: , i'll have you know that my wedge is mostly metalrotflmao ,

Will be saving for a hybrid me thinks, unless a ct20 comes up at the right price... just hoping it is just the turbo thats buggered!

Paul Woods
11-04-2008, 18:36
well after an inspection today it looks like its just the turbo,we cant see any reason for oil flooding the middle two cylinders, which were full of oil too when we took the head off.

So its got to be the turbo seals that have gone.

Mistertwokw
11-04-2008, 18:42
can i uncross my fingers and toes now mr Woods?

Have had a peek at the turbo on e bay(see the other thread), anybody got any thoughts on that?

Ki,

would the turbo ging explain why the muppet crashed? with regard to replacement turbo's i am sure Ki is looking for one that doesn't require any other mods to get it to fit and working. no ecu changes, manifolds, etc. bolt and go only.

when i was looking at a new turbo i found it very confusing about what is bolt and go on a rev 2 engine. whilst the ct20 is a good way to go from what i recall you will need a new manifold, decat etc (i may be wrong though) but a hybrid CT26 will hold boost to the red line and you can whack it up to 16psi with no other mods if you run a charge cooler.

pity the one on imoc sold so quick

Paul,
Had a little think about the angle the engine has been at and it has been tilted to 90 degrees and just over when i was chopping the clip down to size, think that would explain the oil...

Paul Woods
15-04-2008, 18:46
its a good posibility ki but it would be unwise to ignore turbo failure i think...its a ton of work to fit another once the engines in.

Little update.... head is back on and new cambelt fitted....

that looks awesome...think i did a little sex wee!

Am planning on running around 13psi or so and if i get on ok with that maybe run 15, have an electronic boost controller going on it so should be easy enough to play around with.

May have to swap my 15" wheels for somthing a little wider, see how i go first.

Paul Woods
23-04-2008, 18:12

30-04-2008, 19:36
here is ki's almost completed bay....

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2008/04/310.jpg

The CC install was a right bugger, the inlet and outlets didnt line up properly and the rad pipes fouled everywhere! we had to bend this, bend that, fit 90* elbows onto pipes and generally modify loads to get it on,but its fitted...

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2008/04/311.jpg

Tomorrow the pipes get routed forward onto the CC rad,we have already installed the pump on the front crossmember of the engine bay,and its wired into the COR so it only runs when the engine does.
