I'm looking for a set of Toyota Celica GT4 ST185 brake calipers...

Ive only been able to come across ST205 / ST202 calipers on eBay..

Ive been able to find nothing on Breaker Yard and similar, tried about 3 different companies..

I found this American site, sent them an email and got a really quick reply asking what model the calipers were for, I replied with the ST185 and they never got back to me..

http://www.drivewire.com/toyotaparts/catalog/toyotacelicabrakecaliper.html

They have quite a range.. anyone see any there that fit?

Ive found some online @ brakeparts.co.uk (http://www.brakeparts.co.uk/) and @ CarParts Direct (http://www.carparts-direct.co.uk/Brake_Calipers.cfm) but the websites say I need to send my old Brake calipers back to them?

Would I not be able to just buy the Brake Calipers from them at full price without sending old ones back?

Cheers for any help, I'm a total n00b :hidesbehi

Remember, you don't specifically need ST185 brakes, as I think all UK-spec St182 (FWD, GT version) use exactly the same brakes... I bought a complete set from a ST182 and upon inspection were exactly the same, fitted the same ... usually cheaper from a breaker too

A word of warning however - Some import ST182's used a smaller brake set up and not what you need.

Are the import ones the same as the early ST185 brakes over here, or the ST165 Twinpots as they're known?

They use the same size disc as the Mk1B, albeit a little thicker but they still give pretty shit hot braking.

Should I also get ST185 rear brakes too while Im here.. or are the Mk2 ones better?

Cheers fellas.

Don't think you want the rears mate.

Just the fronts, Mk2 22V (rev 2+ IIRC) rears are what you want.

I think the rears are a waste of time as I believe they're a calliper for slowing down with a drum type handbrake inside the disk. Therefore useless for our application. Check first though as I may be wrong.

yup rear celica brakes are a disc/drm combo that works superb on the celica but yet to see it converted for use on MR2 as lot of work me thinks!

some toyotas have that system owen.

But not the 22v system they have a lever to actuate the caliper for rear hand brake fitment it is a mk2 mr2 system after all.

some people on here have found the st165 brakes great with the 22v rear system, but i am going for overkill any way with the st205 front and 22v rear .

AH JUST RE READ THAT yes some avensis have a similair system with inside the drum of the disk braking u dont want that to complicated and a crap idea to boot ,22v rear with modifyed 88-89 vw corrado g60 front discks is the way to go.

Tiggs i think he's referring to the celica rears not the 22V rears.

Ive been looking at those WMC 4 Pot calipers in the traders section and they look rather nice, exactly the same size discs as the ST185 Calipers?

My question is simple, are 4 Pots better than 2 Pots? :coffee:

the late st185 calipers are single pots :)
they'll be "better" cos you;ve got pistons on both sides, no nasty sliders. I don;t know what the total piston area is.... if bigger than the mk1 it will make the pedal softer and reduce rear bias, if smaller then the opposite :)

All I know is that 4 sounds better than 1 :blabla: Cheers Tom.

Nearly, "WMS" 277x25mm and ST185 277x25mm are the same with one difference, the WMS kit's one is about 2mm deeper, giving 2mm more room for the wheels. If people are feeling tight, and have proven to themselves that there is room behind their actual wheels, you can run ST185 discs (slightly cheaper, esp from me!) in a WMS kit by adding washers between the caliper and bracket, with longer bolts . :old:
