It was at a recent West Midlands meet that Ian grinned at me and asked if i wanted a go in his V6 - something he'd been promising for a while now. He never actually got a reply from me i don't think - i was already out the door on the way to the car park like a child on christmas morning.

As soon as i was sat back in the pub my mind was made up - i needed 6 cylinders! But alas, my beautiful black auto i have spent modifiying for the last 18 months just simply wouldn't be worth the conversion as i would have to swap to a manual drivetrain too

That same night (almost exactly 4 weeks ago now) i was chatting to Adam about a potential V8 project (that has since fallen by the wayside due to costs) and he mentioned a Rev3 Tubby rolling shell for sale.

The next few days my head was filled with costs, options, figures, engines etc... then suddenly it came to me - the rev3 shell would be a fantastic donor for a V6 - and after doing a bit of maths it would fit in with my budget easily! A few PM's later and i had secured a deposit on Grahams Rev3 Shell.

Having only seen the car in picture form i was a bit weary about the condition - but i was pleased to hear nothing but praise for the car after talking to a few members on MSN that had seen it at meets.

Last weekend, Ian Jen and myself made the journey down to Newbury with a trailer to pick up the shell (Ian - can't thank you enough bud). We eventually found the street and a gleaming red MR2 suddenly caught my eye. It looked fantastic! A good nosey around the car revealed a fantastic interior and stunning paint condition - i was over the moon.

We loaded the car onto the trailer and began the long haul back to it's new home. I can't give enough credit to Graham for the condition of the car - and considering she has been sat still for a year she was spotless.

Pictures of the shell when she came home:

Today was GUNK day. 3 hours with the bloomin stuff - i swear it's still coming out of my fingernails! The frunk and enginebay were gunked to death and then the frunk got a polish too along with the underside of the bonnet.

Engine bay:

Thanks all - i'm sure i'll have plenty of questions soon!

It's an ex rev 3 tubby so i have the benefit of the LSD and will be my daily driver so i'm not after a quick strip car.

Going to have a chat with Tony as he's only up the road as i'm wanting some port work doing - and a few pointers on the 'free' mods.

Japspeed tubby exhaust arrives wednesday so i need to get grinding the grill off!

Did you get the gearbox thrown in too?

Hell yes!

It also came with carbotech brake pads, an Alpine HU, some 6x9's in the cubby holes (that really do sound good), a walboro 255 fuel pump and the gorgeous Momo alloys that look awesome in the flesh :driving:

I think I've come over all light headed. I could have swore blind I saw Owen say a MkII looked nice... :hidesbehi

Welcome aboard Kieren. As the guys have said, all that stunning MkII needs is the motor Toyota should have fitted in the first place. A V6.

Best of luck with this one. I reckon this will turn out how everybody meant to do theirs but got carried away with getting the V6 in and said sod it!! I know I did - but its well worth it.

Still now luck with a camry as yet - all seem to be at the other end of the country! So i went an bought an exhaust for her instead - a Japspeed full stainless system inc flexi section - virtually identical to the XS Power system. I was unsure on the noise levels and tone at first but after hearing Jinja's and SIFU's up close it had to be done.

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2008/03/409.jpg

Just offered her up to guage the look and i love it:

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2008/03/410.jpg

Popping over to see Tony aka FourVeeSix this weekend to pick up one if his highly rated engine mounts (and to pick his brains on future parts of course!). Hopefully get the exhaust mounts sorted this week - they look very tired so a strip down and refurb can't do any harm as trying to source new ones seems impossible.

New aerial will go on as well this weekend. All the locks seem really tired too having been spent stood still for a year - so they are getting the full WD40 treatment too.

Bit more progess this weekend but nothing major as i have two hurdles to overcome at the moment:

1) The weather (i can only work on half the car in the narrow garage)
2) The lack of engine - still hunting for a camry that's either not 150 miles away and / or over £1K!

So i thought i'd start attacking the boot today and finishing the rear of the car off.

Opened the boot and thought "aye aye! - i'll have to clean that!" So the whole lot got de-greased, polished and waxed (well the weather was bad today!).

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2008/03/416.jpg

Then i finished off the whole rear half of the car with polish, caranuba wax and gloss protection by hand - not quite there yet so will have to wait for the poorboys and the rotary polisher to arrive - then i'll go "medieval on it's ass!"

Boot latch now fixed and hinge sorted too. Started to strip exhaust mounts also. Tried a cheeky test fit mod too if you can spot it.

Ariel was foobarred to so decided to fix that.

New Unit (assuming either UK spec rev 3 or rev 1/2 - either way it's identical in every way apart from a few different coloured wires)

Old one out!
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2008/03/423.jpg

Got it fitted and get to test it tomorrow if this blasted rain will let me get the car on the drive to hook up the battery and do a few other jobs!!!!!

Just itching to get into the real good stuff when i get my hands on a V6!

Thanks for the offer steviek - had more than a fair share the last month though! Switch_BCN aka Guy gave me a ride in his on the way home and was awesome - even though we couldn't open it up in the wet - and been in another 2 as well as i like nagging some members on the OC - LOL

Well,

I no longer need a camry.....

....But i haven't bought one either.

It's going off to Woodsports and will be ready for JAE if all goes smoothly - situation has changed and a bit of extra cash has allowed me to let Paul loose with the ex-tubby - at least he'll be picking a camry engine that's suitable for my new baby and i can't think of anyone better qualified to choose it!

Cleaning still in progress - every night it gets a little cleaner (well i do have to walk around it to get to the fridge so it'd be rude not too!!!!!).

Roll on the conversion!!!!!!!!

Watch out Poohbear - i'm spending some extra pennies on bling :)

Well, not a lot of progress on the car really - just been buying bits and pieces recently.

Picked up the full set of undertrays (minus the large front one as it was on the car) from Graham that i forgot to take with the car and a few pointers from Jim Green at screwfix direct has me a full set of stainless M6 bolts and penny washers - cheers bud!

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2008/04/242.jpg

Also picked up a set of Toms replica side skirts from Toochi that have not been fitted and a little TLC and spraywork from Mark will have them as i need them to match the paint.

Also got some nice gauges from Craig aka G-Ltd-Tbar that turned up today (cheers matey) and i went for oil pressure, oil temp and vacuum gauge so that i have one moving needle for the NA!

Sandwich plate:

Gauges (upside down i know)

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2008/04/246.jpg

And lastly a set of decals for the side strips to replace the tubby "Twin Cam" ones. From Toochi also and they look awesome!. They are the perfect colour match and this weekend i'll be having the side strips off to test fit the skirts and replace with vinyl similar to this i've put in the boot:

Hi there, thought you might find this interesting/useful. It's a wiring guide for a SMT-6 Piggyback on a 3vz-fe. Although it's different from what you've got, there's a good comparison of different piggyback systems and the 3vz-fe at the end.
