Is this your old car Jimi?

jimi
19-03-2008, 22:31
No, but the engine had one of my brackets fitted ;)

Paul Woods
20-03-2008, 06:45
is that an early jimi bracket? its not got the mr2 on it? they are very nicely made items those mate, ever thought about doing one for the v6 lads?

reason i ask is the mk2 cable is too long on the v6,so normally i chop the pedal end, adjust the length, job done.... but a nice jimi bracket replacing the stock bracket would be the bizz and you'd get loads of takers.

I can send you a throttle body to piss about with if you like?

Dont feel under any obligation though mate,i understand if its a right chew on.

Paff
20-03-2008, 07:48
hmm, yeah that would be cool.

Your brackets are awesome Jimi and of good build.

Might have to buy another one after selling on the last one I had and then buying another mk1 :)

Crynox
20-03-2008, 10:01
Btw, bloody nice example of a Mk1 there Rich.

Cheers buddy, I bought it about a year ago, didnt spend too much time looking, (3rd one I saw), paid quite a bit for it, but I think its worth it compared to the condition of others I see around.

Rich.

today i pulled the v6 down to the block, note it hasnt had its steam cleaning or painting yet so things still look a bit grotty...but as per usual there is no wear on anything so far,the bores are perfect and all bearing surfaces on the cams are perfect too.

For info this one had 87k on the clock but isnt any better mechanically than some of the higher mileage ones we have used.

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2008/03/276.jpg

And all of the top end on the bench....

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2008/03/277.jpg

Lots of block cleaning and painting coming tomorrow.

EarL
20-03-2008, 19:30
Wow, that's a pretty thorough strip down Paul. Do all the V6's get that treatment mate?

Paul Woods
20-03-2008, 20:10
every v6 gets taken down to the block, only way really

Paul Woods
21-03-2008, 18:02
today the mounts came off.... and my jig bolted in place, then the mount sides welded in...

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2008/03/287.jpg

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2008/03/289.jpg

just the rear wall to weld and dress before bay cleaning, seam sealing and given a fresh coat of white.

Fascinating stuff, always enjoy seeing the mounts go in. i remember when my ones were put in, its like the first bit of new build after the tearing and grinding out.

Should all be slick whenthe spraying is done, that engine bay should look like new.

26-03-2008, 21:26
try juggling the standard turbo flywheel and the fidanza one, less reciprocating mass=lots more go go go speeding up the throttle response they do it on the turbo why not do it to the v6.

Paul Woods
27-03-2008, 07:10
the flywheel makes a noticeable difference under acceleration.

dont worry huub, sickness wont keep me away from work, feeling much better today anyway

loadswine
27-03-2008, 08:30
Good to hear you're feeling perkier Paul.
With regard to the flywheel, I wasn't sure just how much difference it would make, but I wanted to give it every chance to be as lively as possible and the Fidanza certainly didn't disappoint. It spins up probably better than i'd hoped and feels as revvy as an engine half its size. I think it just gives the conversion that bit of something special. Listen to the vids on youtube, then you might be able to get an idea of its nature, even with a duffer like me at the wheel. lol

OlberJ
27-03-2008, 09:17
There's rumours bouncing about that there might be a viable fidanza replacement at some point in the future.

Nothing set in stone, still at the questioning and research stage, and no idea on cost so might not be worth it but will let folk know as soon as i do.

Didn't realise they came that highly recommended tbh, always thought it'd be more noticeable on a higher revving engine.

Paff
27-03-2008, 12:31
hmm, could be interested in that Olber. Need to do something more to the V6 :)

Huub
27-03-2008, 12:38
But there are also some drawbacks on a light flywheel? Like an instable stationary run? And less "tork" (=not really tork, but more the unwillingness to stop :hehe::) ) at lower revs?

millentubby
27-03-2008, 12:52
Yeah the car will be easier to stall, possibly have a less-smooth idle and will decellerate quicker on the over-run when in gear but I'd be willing to sacrifice that for more acceleration.

Paff
27-03-2008, 13:06
I agree with Colin on this one :)

loadswine
27-03-2008, 14:28
I've not found any significant drawbacks yet with it.

EarL
27-03-2008, 18:38
Well, my old motor had pretty much everything lightened internally, including the flywheel, and despite it running some pretty lumpy cams, never stalled once.

...revved a bit quick too. ;)

msherry21
27-03-2008, 19:12
my mk1 V6sc had a fidanza fly and it only made it better, I loved the way that thing revved!

Paul Woods
27-03-2008, 19:12
today,i got more engine stuff bolted back on,and fitted the new timing belt and new thermostat....

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2008/03/403.jpg

Now rich is a fan of the honda vtec cam cover look, basically a grainy surface and satin red finish like this..... but obviously not as oily

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2008/03/404.jpg

so to get the texture right we apply our old friend mr stone effect paint....

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2008/03/405.jpg

pink ooh suits you sir :gay: .We will be applying satin red over this when dry to get the same look as the vtec covers.

let it not be said we dont go the extra mile..... next week, how to artex your exhaust

Mine is part no. 130901-478, from Ultrarev as recomended by Mr Woods. There was a choice of two, so I just picked at random. So no worries buddy, yours should be just as effective. Both weighed the same, just different metals I think.

Cheers,

snowtigger
27-03-2008, 21:10
i have the same as the bottom picture, it should work as it was tonys 4v6 so if any body should know him and paul have fitted enough of them, i think one is for the alloy engine but both fit the 3vz or i could be blowing smoke rings from my ass again.

OlberJ
27-03-2008, 23:29
Welllllll, what gearbox are you's using?

snowtigger
28-03-2008, 00:02
turbo rev 1 with rev 3 lsd just got to find some lsd shaftscause the spigot rings wont locate with the ordinary turbo shafts , do rev3 turbos come with lsd as standard or is that just the mk3 mr2,and will a lsd equiped celica suported shaft setup work just as well?.

Paul Woods
28-03-2008, 07:01
i think one fidanza is a turbo and the other is an NA

OlberJ
28-03-2008, 08:33
That's what i was getting at boss.

Now here's a thought, if you're going for the Mk2 N/A box with Mk3 LSD, is there suitable celica shafts to go in there?

Did they do celica shafts with an LSD at all?

Paul Woods
28-03-2008, 17:49
mk2na,mk3 and any celica NA shafts all have the same fitment at the diff and at the hubs, hows that for a gem of info.So this mk3 LSD idea will suit any mk2 box'd conversion... except for tubbies who have their own LSD's anyhoo

snowtigger
29-03-2008, 00:21
so celica st205 lsd equiped use the same shafts as a turbo mk2 then or is it just mk2 turbo lsd shafts that i will have to be taken ruffly from behind because they are that rare or hard to find.

Paul Woods
29-03-2008, 09:12
the celica lsd turbo shafts fit but they are 15mm longer each than turbo ones,so you would either need to use the celica supported shaft as well or a camry v6 auto supported shaft set up works too.

Paul Woods
01-04-2008, 19:25
i got the front heatshield made up....

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2008/04/4.jpg

and got some paint onto the textured cam covers... the colour is exactly the same as honda vtec red, just my bloody camera making it look orange!!!

Can you leave a plenum on when putting it into a mk2?

Paul Woods
09-04-2008, 07:00
yes wob the v6 can be fully built when fitting to a mk2,things are just a little narrow in the bottom of the mk1 bay so we need to install it without the plenum

Whore of Babylon
09-04-2008, 09:57
And second question can you drop a 1MZ through the top of the bay? with/without the plenum.
