Fender markers, whats going on?

Look at msherry's mr2. the side marker is aft of the front wheel well.
Now look at this white one, the side marker is forward of the wheel well.

When did things change? could it be because of left hand/right hand difference? or north american regulations vrs european regulations?

Tis down to the americans. Not sure what the actual regs are but all american 2's have the markers further forwards

...and also have red running lights behind the rear wheel ( my SC has these too, but they are disconnected for UK use )

All the american cars have these running lights front and rear, these are on when the lights are on. The light your talking about on the red car (above) is an indicator (turn signal), european cars are required to have these on the front wings (fenders).
