we had a little side project on the go here over the last few days, phillis wanted to convert to NA running gear (better gearing, lighter box) so i thought yeah dead easy a couple of hours will have the bugger sorted....

WRONG!

we ended up spending a whole day fannying around drilling holes in the gearbox and block so that the NA box would successfully mate to the 1mz,nothing too spectacular in that until we came to slide the Mk2 NA shafts in..... phils custom AAS exhaust headers where bang in the way of the drivers inner CV joint....bugger!

So nothing else for it,we had to fit a celica NA supported shaft arrangement, which meant a custom fab job... so here it is,say hello to the worlds first 1mz equal length supported NA driveshaft set up...

We painted it gold cos we know how much he loves the bling!

Ive got to build the very same item for my project too so it was a good learning experience and hopefully it will negate any torque steer.

Thats what we thought, I was told the gearbox was out of a 98 car and I've no reason to doubt him.

nigel sadly this rev5 box didnt have LSD,so we still arent sure about that theory... it seems the way to go is a mk3 UK lsd.

hi when i whent to pick it up he did say though it came of a very low mileadge car under 30 thou cause he was swapping all the engine and drivetrain and brakes cause the guy who had bought it was reshelling his old turbo rev three that some one had kindly tboned him in the side and he had spent quite a lot on it and it was produceing 550bhp.
found does similiar work to paul mostly updradeing toyota mr2 turbos and celica gt4 had a lovely big turbo wrc gt4 on the ramps.

very nice bloke did a bit of businnes with him as he sells good second hand stuff that he upgrades of customers cars.

Right then, I will look into harvesting some. I'll keep my eyes open on ROC.

@Johnny, don't need LSD to trip mate, all the time the grape variant does the trick!:jump:

Yeah I'll go along with that, great to deal with and very reasonable prices.

He told me it eas out of a 98 rev 5 that was getting a rev3 tubby lump put into it.

If this works out ok I might be back onto him for some more goddies.

Got the car back today after the 2 hour n/a gearbox swap. The car "flat out hauls", it's alot quicker plus you can kick the backend out and you know what the car is going to do. I'm over the moon with it, well apart from the bloody flat spots on my tyres.

Def seems the way forward the supported shaft set up, great work mate thanks once again.

Warning this clip contains foul Woodsport lingo.

Johnny I can't tell you how happy I am with it, I feel like a Man City fan.

It just seems the right package for the power of the car. It seems like you have another 40-50 bhp on tap. It would be nice to know how much a n/a can take.

It's not in the polo's league yet but it's getting there.

Yes mate you can have dibs but I think it will be a while before I let her go.

Paul's coffee shop is like the "Emperors New Coffee Shop" only he can see it.

Ollie I can't say how good the car feels and drives even for a mk2. The car should be now well under 1200 kgs now so I think I'm gonna concentrate on the suspension and maybe a little more weight loss. Oh and some new tyres.

Not sure if they are gen 4 or 5 mate. I got them of Paul.

Woods you bastard you locked the wheels up twice, they locked up when you were driving away from us as well as when you come towards us. Bloody women drivers.

unbeknown to you phil i was actually aware of a slight wheel imbalance so i was removing the appropriate amount of rubber from certain areas to balance your wheels up again :)
