sorry found it

im not sure how offsets work entirely what wheels would be best for the mk1 with the wide arch kit woodsy's offering say i wanted to go 2 inch each side? or would spacers definitely be required?

Offset and widths are tricky!

http://www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp

This is a decent link for explaining it. The lower the offset number, the more it will protrude.

Keep everything in mm apart from the wheel dimensions - it's dammed confusing lol

Check that, run through some specs and report back :) - oh and, you might have to get some longer wheel studs too - as I've just had to!

My 17x8 et35 are almost bang on flush with the front arches if that helps.

Cheers for that info :)

We can work with it two ways here.

1. By changing the offset
If you have 17x8 +35 then to move each wheel out approximately 2" either side you 50.8mm (25.4mm x 2") to use. You would be needing 17x8 -16mm. Wheels with negative offsets are incredibly hard to get hold of.

2. Changing the wheel width.
You could change the wheel width to 10" - so that'd be 17x10 and subsequently the offset would be +10. This is a little easier!

If you went for a cominbation ... 17x9.5" +5 etc ...

Hope this helps -- you'll be looking for longer studs as well for your wheels, I'd imagine.

tbh i used to be able to get hold of very good wheel spacers in 25mm width and they even changed the 4 to 5 stud! all in for 4 £160
