Alright, here we go again, round 2 :welcome:

Some of you may remember my old topic(http://forums.twobrutal.com/showthread.php?t=8191), where i started my project and put a lot of time and money in the preparation, getting the right tools has always been a must for me. I hate working with crappy tools or not having the right tool for the job.

Unfortunatley, someone broke into my shed and stole every last piece of my hardware.. my air tools, sockets, wrenches, eveything gone, i had no screwdriver left. This messed up the timing of the project bigtime, especially when the insurance didnt pay out anything because i shouldnt have kept so much (expensive) tools in the shed.. where else am i going to leave them? In the kitchen? Anyway: i saved up some money and bought some new stuff, and rebought the same airtool set..

Now im working as a software service engineer for a company that makes and maintaines industrial scales, so i can use the tools i got from my boss:jump:

New hand tools:

My new favorite toy, this thing costs about as much as a complete 3vz-fe, but since i can use it for free, its great
http://www.pic-upload.de/28.10.07/cezemt.jpg

And something to search the forums and read the forums, a new dell xps series notebook( i believe im supposed to use it for work to, but thats just a vage thought...)
http://www.pic-upload.de/28.10.07/kestho.jpg

So first i needed an upgrade in my deluxe-garage (read: tent), since winter is coming, and im usually home late, i lit the place up like a christmas tree. I never did anything with ac 230v, so im happy with the result ( read: no-one died or got cought on fire )
http://www.pic-upload.de/28.10.07/3ur844.jpg

And here's the beast:driving: Im very happy i finally got it, Japoto Japanse Parts here in holland held on to this engine for me for about 6 months. Since i didnt have any tools and no room to safely store the engine there was no use having it..
http://www.pic-upload.de/28.10.07/4g1cek.jpg

I started taking it apart the day i got it, after the 3 hour job of getting it out of my van and into the shed with 2 guys and no crane over a 90cm wide path..
http://www.pic-upload.de/28.10.07/f8u2r.jpg

I had a mayor problem with the hex bolts on top of the engine housing.. The first one was a major pain but after heating it up, it came loose no problem.
http://www.pic-upload.de/28.10.07/hk3ujv.jpg

The second one however was a not just a pain but a major b**ch, i heated it up for over 15 mins but it wouldnt budge.. i hit it with a big persuasion tool but still nothing. Then i put some muscle into it and this happened:
http://www.pic-upload.de/28.10.07/75ypil.jpg
That was supposed to a decent hitachi bit...

After calling around to see if anyone had a 8mm hex on a socket, wich nobody did, i came up with something else:
http://www.pic-upload.de/28.10.07/rvpq3b.jpg
This air tool has got 675nm but still it took me a couple of minutes to get it.. This bolt alone cost me about 1,5 hours..

This is the state now:
http://www.pic-upload.de/28.10.07/w9kz1b.jpg

And there are the cams:
http://www.pic-upload.de/28.10.07/qbce7t.jpg
The whole engine looks surprisingley clean, theres harldy any rust, its completely dry and there no sludge. According to the guy at Japoto parts, the car ran about 130K KM, before the car got rear ended lol

And after a day of wrecking beautifull toyota technology, the add-on to my luxery garage, my luxery shed, looks like its been trought WWIII
http://www.pic-upload.de/28.10.07/vzlagd.jpg

Meanwhile i also started work on the interiour, took out the seats, panels and speakers. Ill be keeping the leather seets (they are in good condition and i just love them, ive tried other lighter racing seats but these are just the best) and the panels, the speakers will be replaced. The previsous owner already replaced the front speakers once but they could still use an upgrade.
http://www.pic-upload.de/28.10.07/izk4em.jpg

And thats it for now, tomorrow i'll have some more time to take it further apart. And im also in the process of ordering all the small bits and pieces.

Does anybody have some good adresses for all the parts needed for the V6 build? I know theres a lot scattered around the forum but i want to make a list of the best (and cheapest) ways of getting all the mandatory parts. Im also looking for companies that can supply all the parts that are needed at once. Everybody knows how expansive it is to ship something from the USA, so its key to get everything from one or 2 companies to keep shipping cost down.

The list sofar:
Gasket set ( are there any good aftermarket sets available? or maybe get some made)
Oil+water pump, still have to check if i can revise those
Fuel Pump
Silicone hoses + clamps
New radiator hoses
Flywheel (fidanza maybe)
IC
Hydra
2 small turbo's (still deciding there)
Lowering springs+coilovers ( I got an offer for a second hand bilstein set of of a 94 turbo for 600 euro, but i dont know if thats a good price
Turbo >93 brakes calipers + new disks and pads, steel braided lines
Turbo box (e153) + axles, ive seen a proper lsd around on ebay but this is going to be a weekend car, not a racer, and i want it to go sideways:)

Good to see you back after your bad luck mate.

The Fidanza flywheel is probably the only part that will have to come from the USA, all the other bits and pieces should be available on ebay around europe. JohnnyG on here is the man to talk to about Hydra.
Good luck and keep the pics coming.

cracking project mate, looking forward to seeing the results from this one,are you planning to run more than 6psi? you will need supra injectors and a fuel pressure regulator set at least 4.2bar and a walbro pump for anything up to 6psi,above that you need injector upgrade

Im still thinking about the turbo's, i want to make 300rwhp, wich shouldnt be that hard with a good tune. I can go for 2 second hand supra or 3sgte chargers or get some custom made. There is a company here in holland that makes custom chargers for different goals. So they need to know what it is used for, sprinting, top speed, hill climbing etc and then they create the chargers on those specifics. Theres just one problem, and thats that it is going to cost about 1700 euros... But then you get brand new, custom made chargers with a guarantee...

Anyway, im still waiting on woozy's results to see what it will take to reach my goal. I dont want to make any more expensive and later find out that im using it to its full potential. I'll see all that when i come to it.

Ive read that the engine will take 300-330hp on stock internals, so with a decent engine it should be possible wihtout changing the internals.

Good to see you started again! I was starting to get a bit worried about this project after a long time of seeing no progress. Hope everything works out better this time :)

If you want to go sideways I think LSD is the way to go.
If you buy gearbox/axles etc. in the Netherlands it will be expensive. If you buy it all in parts abroad the shipping costs will be huge. So better buy it all at once. I had the same problem and after looking around for a while I decided to just buy a whole turbo conversion kit and sell the engine, leaving me with a gearbox, axles and hubs cheap :)

Anyway, good luck and I'll be watching this closely.

Made some progress yesterday, removed the cams
But i cant continue because im missing some vital pieces of equipment.. need a 12sided socket and a frikking huge hex. So picked some up today and ordered some more toys. I bought the Ironside set AGAIN :hidesbehi It will take a week or 2 but its just great value for money so ill wait for it..

Oh and on the LSD,correct me if im wrong, but these differentials are made to distribute the power between the rear wheels so you'll have as much grip as possible, this is better (and safer) for normal riding and racing etc, but bad for drifting. If the rear wheels behave the same at all times its much easier to loose grip, so better for drifting (and a lot cheaper to)

I'll post some picks tonight, and tnx for the comments!

Tramp driftin = weldin the diff shut. It's a nasty way of driftin apparantly.

Haha i dont want to go that far but a good LSD box is pretty expensive and i prefer to spend most of the budget on the engine :driving: Maybe ill change my mind later on, the transimision is bolt on and my workspace is limited so theres no use in buying one now..

Drifting is easier with both wheels spinning. Welding the diff will always have both wheels spinning at the same time, but not really an option on the street, like you said, that's too far ;)

Without an LSD one wheel will spin and the other one won't. A normal diff distributes torque evenly, so the spinning wheel gets all the power, the other one will not rotate -> bad for drifting.

An LSD tries to keep the wheels turning at the same speed. The spinning wheel no longer gets all the power. If there is a difference in rotation speed of the wheels, the slower spinning wheel gets more torque so there is less chance that one wheel stops rotating completely. So both wheels spinning -> better for drifting.

This is what I understand of it anyway.

Awaiting pics now :)

Ok so the lsd is still an option  But thats for later, first the engine!

Got the cams out and valve covers off, now trying to create a tools te remove the valves. I went to the store today but they charge 78 euro's for a valve remover.. For something i'll probably use once its a bit to much. And i already spent some more on other tools, got some 12 sided sockets, some hex sockets and some other stuff, all Gedore ( got 20% discount and i dont have to pay taxes if i order it for my boss rotflmao )

damn... how bad is it if would lose one of the keepers from the valves?

Not good tp loose the keepers - but i don't think it will be expensive to get from Mr T.
Good to see you back on track - good luck this time
BTW who's the chick on your laptop?

That depends; if you lost it down a cylinder or oil channel then pretty bad really... :hidesbehi

I found a keeper in my sump when i stripped the engine down - I did'nt loose one

hmmmmm
01-11-2007, 18:59
No no it didnt fall down the cilinder/sump or anything, i just lost grip on my home made sst tool, the custom valve remover :blabla:

http://www.pic-upload.de/01.11.07/l1nlqa.JPG

So all the parts including the keepers jumped out and flew across the shed.. i found some of them but lost a keeper.. can they be ordered by a toyota dealer or something? Ill probably have to pay for 48 of them..

Anyway, yesterday ive removed 12 valves, so one side done.

http://www.pic-upload.de/01.11.07/bvdsap.JPG

Organized all the parts in my handy ikea boxes.

Looked it up for you, its Nikki Sanderson, its a widescreen image so google it if you want a different resolution ;) Ive tried searching the real life version but no luck yet...

Got some more done so heres an update:

Got the other head done, so everything removed and ready for a cleanup.
http://www.pic-upload.de/11.11.07/urnc2k.JPG

But i did spot a problem, one of the valve cilinders is cracked..Anybody know how serious this is and what has to be done??
http://www.pic-upload.de/11.11.07/chvdvd.JPG

But at least the heads are of and the lower block is revealed, looks pretty good actually, not a lot of carbon, and now misformed gaskets.
http://www.pic-upload.de/11.11.07/adc5oq.JPG

As you can see the timing belt is still one, because i cant remove the crankshaft pulley.. Ive tried with 2 people and a 1.5m extended socket but now luck, also tried the air wrench but still nothing.. Im thinking of loading the block in my car and driving to the nearest garage to make them undo it.
http://www.pic-upload.de/thumb/11.11.07/7ewn3y.JPG

Anyways..turned the blok over and started to remove the oilpan, now i just need a 12sided socket to start on the crank.
http://www.pic-upload.de/11.11.07/gfgcw.JPG

All in all its coming apart nicely, only problem is the cold.. so i got something to make sure my hands dont freeze:
http://www.pic-upload.de/11.11.07/fr1vfu.JPG

So thats it for now, i just need to take the crankshaft out and bring the engine compenents to a shop i found nearby, they'll clean the engine and check if it needs any work, more on that soon

do u meen valve guide if that is cracked its a new one dude also have a look at the valve that came out of that one to see if there is any ware marks on it u dont whant it falling apart when u have just rebuilt it.if it looks like new valve guides then u will have to heat the head then rapidly cool the guide with either oil or crushed ice cubes it may just fall out. if its an interfereance fit then its a valve guide remover job ether way its apain in the arss if its the head thats cracked new head or alloy welding at a reputable company.just wot 4v6 said dm late again

haha thats a great find rotflmao But i got most of it

Anyway, the company thats going to clean the parts can probably fix this for me. But its gonna take some time, because they change the fluids in the cleaning baths once every 3 months. So im going to wait 3 more weeks so they can clean it with fresh fluids, that way its gonna be perfect :jump:

Now i just need to come up with a paint scheme, im thinking of going with red and black, or silver and black and a red engine bay..
Oh how difficult my life is...

If you still need a few keepers, I bought an extra head and have 48 more than I am going to need. I'm in the US so shipping might be an issue but I can send you like 20 of them so if anyone else in Europe needs them you can distribute.

hmmmmm
11-11-2007, 21:02
sounds like a great id ! Im still waiting for an awnser from my garage, because they might have some laying around. If this doesnt work out ill definatley take you up on that offer !
