sorry for jumping on the twobrutal forum with a mk1 problem but I cant seem to get any decent answers elsewhere. I offered to help a guy out with his mk1 but its got something funny going on. running rough, overfueling. the odd bit is the idle up valve and the tvis valve both click madly when the ignition is switched on. The diagnostics dont work either ? Any ideas ?

Kev

I think all the VSVs are fed via the EFI main relay - chack that it is operating properly ( maybe swap for a spare ? ). Also check all the ECU earths

well looked at it today and wished i hadnt. the vsv is as you say connected to the relay, pulled the relay and the clicking stopped.i changed the relay and all the others but no joy. i changed the ecu , i checked the connectors , i unplugged replugged the temp sensors, i swore a lot but even that made no difference. the only one i did not replace was the open circuit relay but i cant see this doing it. the engine warning light is constantly on.
help !!! Paul is this not up your street ?

could try fitting a V6 or 3S :)

Are you sure you swore in the right manner, and did you show the car any kind of hammer?

Are the fusible links original kev?

Might be a clue if any of the wiring has been fried at one point?

Can you get a multi-meter onto the feeds to and from the idle up and TVIS valves on this and another (working normally) mk1 to see what sort of signal is being passed along and if there are any differences between the two?

kev you have definately got a dodgy connection somewhere there,my first port of call would be the N1 connector in the boot, they sometimes collect water and furr up inside, corroded terminals are common, check there first mate and report back

I'd 2nd Pauls suggestion, I worked on a tacho fault on Murf's Mk1 ( when Robert had it before the conversion ) and the problem turned out to be in the N1 connector, the engine had been changed at some time and the half of the N1 connector on the engine loom side had been slightly squashed and distorted, with the result the when the 2 halfs were mated some of the pins didn't connect properly. Once I got it mated properly everything worked OK.

spent hours cleaning checking and rechecking connections. Buggered it was.
At least thats my final take on it.
