Mine bubbles on shut-down from the coolant pipes... I think you're right, it shouldn't be doing it, as that's air in the system, but it's become normal for me lol

Took it a run to mcd's last night, was hunting on idle, then eventually settled after we got there.

Definitely air in the system.

Think i know when i did it aswell :doh:

Right, it's doing it again.

Hunting on idle at start, then fine on motorway, hit traffic and the temp shoots up, water bubbling out the expansion tank. Fair bit of steam.

Then, back down to halfway and it's fine again.

Would air in the system cause it to be so eratic? I thought it was the HG gone but it went back to normal and ran perfect after i pulled over and sat for 2 mins.

If it is the HG, it wouldn't be intermittent would it? What we looking at for parts if it is the HG? Can defo take it on myself but what will the bits cost?

Anyone got that write up on how to bleed the system?

My original Mk1 did the exact same I'm afraid - Would be perfectly well behaved if I sat at 70 on the motorway. Any more and the temps would rise and she'd cook.

Could also be a simple leak in the system such as a weepy radiator or a pinhole Olie so investigate thoroughly before whipping that head off!

Is the expansion tank draining out over time?

4v6 - I think it's on his 4-AGE mk1 :)
