    You bet i did!

I couldnt believe my luck as a friend of mine had just given up on turboing his 4age kitcar a month ago and sold me his manifold, which happened to be a mk1 one, for beer money. I was just sorting out the possibility of megasquirt with my mate at uni who builds the m-tech ones you see on ebay, then...

Well, here she is, £150 worth of rusty USDM mk1 shed -

It is rusty as hell, well past the point of saving, but has all the bits i need.

Turbo Manifold (hard bit) Yes indeed, i came across mine purely by chance

Turbo - T25 etc. Loads available, T25 is the factory turbo on th 200sx amonst many others

Turbo oil feed Kits are readily available and the 4age block is easy to tap into

Thicker head gasket (to lower CR) Not entirely necessary, depends whether you stick with stock ecu and injectors. See below.

IC Mk2 owners are ditching theirs all the time for chargecooler/ally set ups, got mine for £8

Custom piping / BOV This could be fun.. gonna ask my longlife buddy.

Custom downpipes / exhaust Got a mate at longlife who is gonna sort me out

US spec AFM and associated wiring For my cheapo setup, this is the important bit as the AFM can measure positive boost pressure, UK MAP sensors are incapable of this

Gutted TVIS - going to get in the way / too flimsy? Different schools of thought on this. Gutted = more boost, Ungutted = quicker turbo spool

Uprated fuel pump / injectors? Again not necessary if sticking with stock ecu

    ECU / electrical? See below.

It is a bit complicated, and getting all the parts together is no easy thing, I just had a run of luck (without even running!)
At the moment, my understanding is that i should be able to remove the entire engine loom and ecu from the US car. The US ecu has maps capable of running positive pressure and my limits are based on the combination of these maps and my injectors?
Therefore, lowering the compression in any way will not see any real benefit without me having better maps (ie aftermarket ecu) and bigger injectors (4agze or similar).

As paul said above, I think you could squeeze 10psi out of it, but that would be bouncing of the limits of det and for that reason i'm gonna stick with aiming for the 8psi that my t25 is already set up for by keeping stock compression/ecu/injectors.

Or have i got this totally wrong? rotflmao

I wouldn't like to sound negative on anyone's project but wouldn't this be a whole heap easier starting from a SC setup? Genuine low compression piston set-up, AFM based, happy to run at 14 PSI all day long, uprated fuel pump as standard, IC plumbing done for you, knock sensor wired into the head and ECU etc. If you've got all the bits then good on you go for it I'd say  It's just a bit like walking to the Grand Canyon, I'd rather start in America rather than he UK...

    All the best,

    Owen.

ive seen a turbo manifold on ebay, from XS, for just over £ 150 ish. think its stainless and has a t25 flange. the whole idea is growing on me now:idea: i would start with a agze block first off, see what happens! whats the worst that can happen!!!!!

I'd love to have started with a 4agze, but that would have cost me £1000, which i'd have rather spent on a 3sgte. ;)
Don't get me wrong, i'm not trying to create a turbo monster...
Just managed to get the parts and fancy giving my 4age a kick up the bum. I'm hoping that after i've broken the US car, the project with have actually made me money.

sounds like a good low budget option, to turbo the age. think it could be done pretty simply, and should give it the required "kick" good luck, ill be watching closely

chris you can always see what the 4a-ge's limits are and if it does go bang then go for a gze block later on.....4a-ge's are ten a penny so you cant go wrong trying it out on this one really.

Right ive been thinking about your tvis, the tvis relies on vacuum and the tvis vsv being switched open at 4500rpm ish,now the ecu will still click open the vsv at that revs but you have no vacuum in the plenum to suck the tvis diaphragm open (your plenum is now full of boost, positive pressure) so the tvis wont work on boost anyhoo!

Best thing to do is gut the tvis rail, remove the butterflies, job sorted

Edit: just occured to me you *could* plumb the tvis vac line in between turbo and AFM,instead of the plenum, that area always sees vacuum under all conditions,im just not sure how much vac you need to operate the tvis and it might not be enough.....fuck it,gut the tvis :)

Paul, how does the rev1/rev2 3SGTE t-vis work?
