Not got much done this morning as my neighbour has her washing out and wouldn't be very nice if I stink her underwear out.

Will leave that to her. :hidesbehi

Just got the front wings primed and thought I would show you a pic of the respirator I am using.

David, What compressor and gun are you using? tempted to start this myself after spending loads on rattle cans!

My dads mate is a panel beater/sprayer and he painted my escort a few years ago with me helping (ie doing the donkey work!) before he painted anything he had a cable with a crocodile clip on one end and connected to an earth spike in the ground at the other end.
before painting anything he would clip on the cable to whatever he was painting to discharge any static electricity that might be stored in it and help stop dust and particles being attracted to it.
sounds like bullshit but its true!! :)

Got a SIP 3HP compressor with a 150L tank (£400) and a Gunsa HTE 1.5mm nozzle gravity fed gun (£100).

Bare metal or unpainted fibreglass (Veins Bumper) needs a etch primer which mixes 50/50 with its activator firstly and then a high build primer is used. The high build primer I have is from a company called PPG which according to the guys in the shop is top quality stuff. It mixes 4 parts primer to 1 part activator.

Seeing as I haven't got a clue what I'm doing i decided to go the solid paint route as opposed to metallic. That way you don't need a final laquer and you can sand the sags from the paint which you are certain to make.

The paint mixes 4 parts paint, 1 part activator and 10% thinners if I remember right.

Its really frustrating work and loads of prep needed but I must say other than hanging the engine on its mounts for the first time and the first start up, this has got to be one of the most satisfying parts to the build.

The compressor supplies about 9.5CFM air delivery and the gun runs just below that.

Doesn't seem to stress the compressor too much although that may be just because I am doing a few panels at a time.

Plan tomorrow is paint the wings and move onto the doors.

Sure I read somewhere that one coat with a traditional gun is worth about 7 coats with a rattle can as its mostly propellant in the can.

I'd say its time I invested in gun and compressor. Cheers for the info.

More pics as my digital camera packed in and I had to go buy a new one.

The doors are real heavy but I wanted to paint inside the jams so thought this was the best way to hang them.

The boot lid turned out well after I welded up the holes I didn't need due to the plumley spoiler mod and sanded them down.

The spoiler also looks pretty good even after my blending in of the LED brake light.

Paint on the door tomorrow evening after work.
