Thread: Extending ratios on the E153

    Extending ratios on the E153

Just for reference everyone, if you want to extend the ratios on the E153 gearbox, you can use the ST165 final drive ratio. This will increase each gear by 9%. Means you can hit 60 without bouncin the rev limiter in 2nd, and in 5th gear 163mph @ rev limiter becomes 177.6mph

I've also heard that the 5th gear from the S series tranny in the manual Camry/Solara from the US is not E series compatable.

Part numbers if you're interested in doing this are:

    3.933 Shaft, Output 33321-20120
    3.933 Gear, Ring 41221-12240
    3.933 Gear, Oil Pump 33407-12011

I think the parts come to around ?320 - then of course it's fitting on top.

Paul: Do you work on gearboxes? Just for an indication of how long something like this would take?

    Just for information :)

I've got this mod on my box... can't wait to see what its like

I plan on doing a back to back at some point with a stock box to document the real life differences.

for it really to be useful, you need about 240bhp on a rev 2 to maintain stock acceleration IIRC (265ish on the Rev3+).

This really is a top speed modification, and an economy aid for m.ways :)

I'm planning it in the non-too-distant along with the rest of the stuff (stockpile growing!), so please let us know what it's like!!
