you cannot have creation, without first a little destruction

Is the engine newly rebuilt perchance?
I had the same thing on on my Mi16 when it was rebuilt, just the oilways weren't fully oiled up yet, took about 1,000miles to go away completely. Almost clickey sound like an injector?
Dunno if the 3S work the same way mind you.
hangs head...i do apologise for the brutal and amateur nature of my suggestion :)feeler gauge rape!.. you should ashamed mr woods! :blabla:
i've had another look at the engine today and it seems to be coming from the camcover area. could it be a tensioner or idler vibrating at a certain rpm?
A garage told me that if it was the shims then the noise would be apparent at all rpm's. is that right?
my names dave......
wouldnt be the tensioner itself, as thats hydraulic.. it may be the pulley tho, check em all out.. wiggle em about and see if you have any play in the bearings.. will be hard, but you should be abled to give them a wiggle down the cam side.
if i was you id check shims myself, all you need is a set of feeler gauges you got some i'm sure matey. safer that way as you know, instead of going on a hunch
bgb has a step by step.
cold;
0.15mm - 0.25mm for intake side
0.20mm - 0.30mm for exhaust side
