    My MK2 Rev3 eBay Find

Hi all, This is my eBay buy from earlier in the year, One MK2 Rev 3, 3.0 1MZ-FE engine with a supercharger. Bought the car as a non runner, well she did run but with no MOT, flat battery, flat tires and erratic idle speed, it needed some TLC.
So I got a brand new battery fitted, got a new section of exhaust made up and welded to the mongoose exhaust and all the tires resealed to odd rims (front to rear).
Got the car to a MOT center and she passed, but only just as the breaks where just a little low on performance, so got the car home and stripped all the breaks down and cleaned and lubed where needed. But still had the issues with the idle speed and lack of power.

Got the car booked in to a jap car tuning specialist and a few hours later got a call to say that the rear bank of cylinders where low on compression and suggested that a engine rebuild was is need, and to take my car while they priced all the parts and labor.
So in the mean time I was having a conversation with a friend who works for Vauxhal, who said he had that same issue a while back after a timing belt had been change, so it boiled down to the valve timing being out.
I had also began looking on this forum and found the original build by Antnkel, who used Paul Woods at Woodsport to do the engine change.
I then called up Paul, who was very helpful and he also suggested that as all the compression readings on the rear bank of cylinders where the same that the most likely problem was the valve timing.

The next week I got the car booked in to my local garage and asked him to check the valve timing out, when he got back in touch with me he told me the belt on the engine was a cheep Quint & Hazel one and that the rear bank of cylinders was out on the pulley by 5 teeth, A brand new belt kit with pulley and the car runs like a dream..

Great to hear this car is up and running.
Big gamble to buy a non runner, glad it all worked out good in the end

Great stuff, i love being right on remote diagnostic problems, it boosts my already over enflated ego and annoys Chris :)

    Seriously though, nice one.

Thanks guys, and yes was a big gamble, but with help from Mr Woods and friends she is up and running sweet, think I will have to get the Link ECU remaped as she seems to run a little rich, mpg seems low.

Ok big lad, more ego massaging coming your way.
Briefly, I recently asked Paul about improvements to the suspension of the LDC, to which he patiently listened, gently persuaded me away from my more radical ideas and pointed me towards a Koni Sport kit along with full 'polybushing'. He also had most of the components shot blasted and powder coated. Now all very smart. After a bit of research locally, I had laser wheel alignment carried out at Formula 1 Autocentre and was fortunate to end up with a technician who was both enthusiast and enthusiastic and took time and trouble to give me the best set up for my mixture of road use and occasional low key motorsport. Initial impressions - I was prepared for a harsher ride and less compliance. If anything, the ride is more comfortable than it was, the turn in is far more precise and the car corners like a meerkat on 'speed'. Plus an added advantage for a man of my age- I can go from soft to fully hard with a few turns of the wrist ( ooh-er!)
Big thanks as ever to Paul and David for impartial advice and a well executed and professional result.Attachment 2967

Hey Gavs - bit of a slap from Rotherhithe I'm afraid - Doncaster. Was v. impressed with with their attitude and approach. Cost £60.00 for 4 wheels, which I thought was pretty good, given the result I got. (See also another post by Goldy, doesn't sound as though he had a similar experience. The technology is one thing, I think that as usual it's down to the skill or otherwise of the technician ) All I can say is that the combination of that and Paul's work have made a huge difference to the car's handling.
