I'm still in the process of finishing my 2GR build. I tried my best to only spend what I needed to, but you just can't cut every corner.

I stopped keeping track when I got past about £6500. I think the suggestion that you could save £2500 building it yourself is a pretty tall order for most home builders.

I'm building my own because I'm just that way. I would feel like I cheated if I paid someone else to do it. Having said that, I would have been driving it a long time ago if I had.

    My advice.........

Build it yourself if you want to build it yourself for the joy of it. Do not build it yourself to try and save money, because I doubt you will. I talked with Lee at length about his build, and he wouldn't tell me how much he spent because his wife was within earshot.

If you want a 2GR, built, keys handed to you, and off you go, then cut to the chase; get c.£8500 in a big pile and go see Paul Woods.

    Chris.
Between now and then i'll read up i'm sure a lot of the engine and build. However I suspect other aspects of my life will of taken over and the time to do it just wont be there. +plus Paul knows what hes doing....right

On plus side went to see the body and its coming on, will actually be finished without a spoiler and then ill choose to mount one if i want. as the guy at the bodyshop said, you can always put one on but if you take if off you better like filler and a bit of a miss match paint.

So nice to see something new that isn't a copy of something and looks that good.

Can you show me a single n/a 2gr which produces 350bhp?

Every time someone quotes power for them an extra 25-30 bhp gets added on.

    Let's be honest.

My bad gav i thought they were a stock 350bhp

325bhp at a push but in that car you get 25bhp more just because it's just so darn sexy, makes me want to build one next either that or an rsr escort mk1 coyote v8.

I'd say if you don't want to be disappointed on a tough dyno I'd guess at a round 300.
As Paul has said to me it's not so much about the headline power figure with these v6s - it's more about the low down shove they deliver.
It's a hard one to quantify but in my opinion makes any of the v6s a nicer daily driver - they're a lot less frantic.

I'm guessing 300bhp from this engine has a good torque figure? providing quicker acceleration than a 3s-gte. 20-70 type of thing.

I'm not after headline figures but the performance has to be there so don't want to go backwards in performance terms.

Yep, BHP numbers are for down the pub, everyone's hung up on that number, yet it's the torque that really matters.... all 2gr swaps are somewhere around the 300lbs.ft area.

More importantly, a 2gr will produce the same torque at 2500rpm as a 3s-gte will at full boost, not a bad stat.

Trust me, the only thing that will go backwards will be the scenery, very quickly.... we calculated you need a 3s-gte running around the 370-400bhp area to give comparable performance.... simply put, they're awesome.

Be nice if mainstream numbers changed with electric coming in. Full torque from word go, hence BHP becomes a bit less relevant.

The real question will come from once I have the 3s-gte at higher boost and about the 290bhp, I can decide if the performance is about right for the car, or with a little more a bonus or do I need a large jump. Car only weighs about 1.1ton so I can't see it needing more...but I've said that in the past with a supra.

Don't suppose anyone in dorset with a converted mr2 that you know about?
