    I'm not familiar with the subtle nuances of this engine in particular, but cold start injector would be the likely villain of the piece. If it has one.

    Faulty coolant temperature sensor? The ECU will use a default of around 82 degrees if it detects a problem with the sensor. Which means the engine won't run properly until its up warmed up.
