Spent another half hour this evening doggedly determining to get my head around the wiring.
I think, maybe, just maybe, I had my eureka moment?
Look at the attached wiring diagram of which I have made some notes on. Does what I've wrote make sense? Mainly the wire going to the ECU.
This is for wiring up the green starter relay.

Pretty good! But that yellow wire I don't think will work.
You will need the red / silver wire from the STA pin on the grey plug in the boot. That's the pin from the ignition switch that will throw the relay and cause the starter to spin.
But now you're cooking sir!

I hate all southerners. As a point of reference, I'm stood at the north pole.
Not really an issue as such. Nick is getting down to wiring up. We had a look see at mine on Saturday, and I've sent him a copy of the revised 3VZ wiring guide as it details some of the key bits on the MR2 that need grafting in.
I've found it useful, so Nick is now going over his wiring, starting (pardon the pun) with the starter relay.
