Get some toyota for life coolant too.
Once u replace rad. Flush the system and then fillup with the fluid and bleed system again..
Takes a long time but u will be glad in the end..
Took me 3 days to properly get all the air out of mine.. hasn't missed a beat since

I've just ordered an alloy rad coming from Australia for the mk1.

I still swear by my method.

Fill it to the brim with coolant (or water if you're really skint), leave cap off and go to bed. I've never had an airlock. It just seems to gurgle all the air out on its own.

When the level stops dropping, it's full.
