Mystery oil spill

So I had my car on axle stands, so her rear was slightly up the air.

Could only get 2L of transmission fluid in the S54. (so 400ml short)

I start her on the axle stands and I find oil underneath the bellhouse, lowest point where the 1mz and the s54 meet... I could not figure out yet if it was transmission oil or engine oil for sure.

So I ran here again a day later and a new puddle gets formed: 99% sure its transmission oil.

At this moment 100ml max is leaked out of the transmission. I put her on her wheels and start driving her for 200-300 meters max and fill her up with gas. I Drive back and wait for her to leak: not a single drop!

So I take the daily driver and go look at the Pump: not a single drop!


I'm flabbergasted, any thoughts?

P.S.> The tranny was out of use for 16 months without oil.

b) you overfilled the gearbox?

Oil seal dry with age gets lubed and hot oil soaks in becomes playable seals stop leaking?

Or e= elves orcs or dwarves

Check oil when cars level= still up to level then gearbox ok, engine oil ok all fluids ok call it win win move on nothing to see here.

I've experienced roughly the same with my gearbox. I've changed the axle seals while it was out, and it was leaking very slightly (think drops, not puddle) after it had been assembled and filled with oil. After driving it for a short while, the leaking stopped. I guess the seals need to set to seal properly. Either that or there's no oil left In my gearbox at all ;)

the rear axle stands where, I guess, 4-5 cm higher as the fronts.

I think decipher has it right on the money, oil warms up, seals soften and move into place, oil leak stops.

Maybe best to call it a win and move on.

Oh and check the oil level.

Those are brand new and there is no oil near it, thanks for your help though!

I also think it might be what decipherer and tigger said.
