Thread: Honda CRX V8 Swap - Not Mine

  1. #21
Steering column now welded in place, the roll cage is welded in and possibly the most complicated gear shift assembly ever has been fitted.

Ford escort steering rack, ford KA joint and I think its a peugeot steering wheel assembly.

Still need to extend the steering arms.

Spot the adjustable anti roll bar....

Roll cage tack welded in place.

Front of shift assembly (out of mr2)

Rear of shift assembly (I have no idea how this works but it's bloody amazing!

A lot of work still do do, steering rack, suspension & adjustable anti roll bar, remove body and final weld chassis, add floor pan and bulkheads, wiring, fuel, electrics brakes, extending body work, painting chassis and body work. And if all of this is finished before the racing season, add supercharger!!!

Lovely build, love the engeneering and CNC machined parts! Anyway, you should change the title. It no CRX anymore!
    Don't shoot the messenger!

Bit of an update as it's been a while...

Fuel tank designed, welded and installed. The assembly behind the fuel tank is actually part of the anti roll bar, it's going to have some crazy pully and spring roll bar that will make it fully adjustable, i've never seen anything like it.

Gear assembly finished with reverse lift collar.

Exhaust is done, it's a twin silencer per bank job, it looks totally amazing.

Body work is being built up, bear in mind the track of this thing is WIDE, it's going to look something like a DTM car when finished, you can sort of get the idea here.

Adjustable pedal box installed, and check out the interior welding, I can't believe how much work there is in every inch of this motor.

They're from a Jaguar V8 Supercharger are you thinking about doing something similar?

I'm pretty sure he hadn't done any serious welding before he started the project but he's well practiced now :-)

not really, but it's always good to keep a good inventory of parts like that.

the whole project looks pretty good. I'm currious what the weight of it is, but i don't want to diminish the work that has been done either.

I know he's cut out about 150kg of steel from the bodywork alone not sure what's gone in though, i'll ask Pete when I see him next, I think he's aiming for similar weight to before just with a V8 in the back. You have to remember it already had a roll cage and about 20kg of filler in those arches ;-)

Surprised he didn't go for a central fuel tank(s). Awesome stuff though...
I hate all southerners. As a point of reference, I'm stood at the north pole.
