goofy MKI door locks? auto-unlock when closing?

the "new" 1987 MR2 i got has a really weird issue. whenever you close the doors (both sides) it unlocks that side. locking it with the key works just fine but you can't lock and close.

thoughts?

It's a built in "safety" feature as not to lock the keys inside accidently, my mk1 is the same. All you have to do is just keep the door handle up when closing the door ;)

oh, odd. now that i think about it, my previous MKI had the doors stripped before i got that far :)
