    Metal Flakes In Coolant??!?

Following on from my overheating thread; here.

I have been topping up the coolant, I've put about another 1/2 litre in over the last week since changing the cap so it still seems to be loosing a bit of coolant even though I havent really driven it more than a mile.

Today I have found that when I topped up the coolant there are some tiny copper coloured metal particles floating in the coolant filler neck (they definetly glitter!)

Is this a red herring or some warning that the water pump is on its last legs?

    Cheers,

    G

The only moving part in the water system is the pump.

I've seen the bearing collapse on other engines before, but if the pump is buried it's difficult to diag without dismantling and inspecting.

It would normally be accompanied by water loss from the pump if that was the case though.

    Chris.

if the pump is leaking you would see some sign of coolant,
and if headgasket is gone you will see water dropping low..
are you getting excessive steam from exhaust, what does the engine do if you remove oil filler cap while engine is running..
