It's a self build ECU, you get all the bits and put it together with solder, wire it into your car and you get a mappable ECU at a fraction of the cost of a proper one.

The ready made one's have more features and there's more people map them but MS can still do the shit, it's more TB i reckon.
Defo, sounds very scary.. i go as far as changing a fuse on a plug and thats me. Interesting none the less, ill never make a fool of myself again.. well when talking about Megasquirt anyway lol

Actually technically you don't get anymore with the readybuilt ones as you need to ask for the extra options, you still get the same with the homebuilt altho I belive that you can leave bits out. not all of the generic built ones have to be used. Alun actually bought a readybuilt one as well as his home built kit and TBH the homebuilt is gonna work best for him as he can customise it completly :)

"Whats Megasquirt if you dont me asking? Its either a rude movie.. or something to do with fuel injectors maybe? Only guessing.." - lol

Yeah, tis a nice little bit of kit, but was a bit daunting when I dived into it and threw away a lot of toyota gear. Worth it all in the end though though :) Gives me pretty much all the options of the more expensive gear at a fraction of the price and it's been educational to say the least heh.

I'm looking forward to playing with the options, this is fitted for flatshift and launch control. There's also another output that may be used for a boost controller & external wastegate at some point, on it's own 36 point map (6 rpm x 6 throttle positions). Having no dizzy or AFM makes things a bit cleaner in the bay too :)

Very impressive for what's effectively an open source project. Apologies for no photos today, been pulling the SC off to sort out an annoying little click.

    It's a 2.0 inline four that thinks it's a viper v10. What's not to love?

Aye it's a brilliant idea but for the home builder it does require either a knowledge of this type of thing or a good few hours of reading and learning to DIY.

Is the map resolution much of a drawback? Or will that only become a problem if you get into higher tuned motors?

alun had no knowledge of the thing, but as you say it does take many hours of reading. He is a smart lad tho and can brandish a mean soldering iron :) hope it won't be a prob with higher tuned motors ;)

Nope, map resolution shouldn't be too much of a problem to begin with. The 144 point maps can be upgraded to 256 point with code changes if needed. From what I understand, the totota ECU just picks "nearest match" from its various fuel and spark maps, however the MS calculates an actual fuel & spark value from the 4 closest spark timings / fuel durations.

I've seen MS's running 1000bhp+ engines I don't think I'm gonna have any issues with it for a fair while :) (look on 1320video for some of Parrish's vids - v8 turbo pickup on megasquirt). Looks great drag racing supras :D

Edit: found this one which is nice, 231mph bonneville flats high speed car running megasquirt
