Hello everyone. This is Dave formally known as D-Spec from the "board and OC". I bring to you my on going 3vzfte build up. I'm about a year in (I'll explain why later), and all is going well. I thought you might like to see a build from the States cause I really like seeing your handywork and ideas.

On with the show!:hidesbehi

It's not from a Hilux, and I don't know what a Aurion??? is. We didn't get them in the states. I'll tell you what, here is another shot of the setup. I wasn't going to show these till the motor was in the engine bay, but for you guys...why not!

It shortens the runner length by almost 10 inches, so for my "boosted" application, it will help immensely. I was going to custom build a plenum similar to this...till I found one:thumbsup:

Power range is about 450-500whp. Turbocharged w/ lsd trans. Tires are a 255/40/17 in the rear. Hopefully it'll hookup eventually. I'll post more pics as soon as I get some more stuff done. Waiting on the trans and clutch to get the engine in the bay and start wiring.

I know. it's from an Acura CL-S/TL-S/Accord v6.

edit.
It looks awesome by the way. Great Job on the build. now if only i could finish mine. It looks like from both pictures that the valve covers are off. will they still fit back on with that intake manifold? I wonder how the power band will change with that manifold. I can't wait to see the dyno results. Keep up the good work.

That plenum is fancy looking....whats the size of the TB?

D-Spec
31-05-2007, 05:07
Dang it all if I didn't get caught red handed! :O Throttle body is 65mm. I think this setup would be good for turbo. I'll have to get some numbers and then I'll tell how it was done. It's not very straight-forward as it may look, but it shortens the runners and gives me optimum TB position across from the A2W cooler.

Dave

WeasyS2S
31-05-2007, 07:54

It's the right hand side one in the pic, as in facing the cam end, is on back to front, no timing marks and the rimmed edge should be on the outside.

Easy to sort.

By the by, i see you've put 3VZ-FTE. By that do you mean you're leaving everything else standard and putting on a turbo?

If you're doing the heads and things at the same time i'd be inclined to call it a 3VZ-GTE

D-Spec

It's official now, with the head porting and valve jobs it is now the 3VZ-GTE as recommended by OlberJ.

Well, it took longer than I thought, but I've got the trans paid for and sent out. I've decided on a RPS Max 6 Puck sprung hub to hold my 3litre turbo goodness. I'll need to get a flywheel from advance for 30 bucks and then I'll be ready to bolt it together. All that is left is everything else. I'm also prototyping a roof scoop/razor back intake that will directly feed the turbo and make it kind of like a fast back. Its gonna be all nice and sealed and will be functional and tres' cool. I've decided on a widebody as well with a few little tweaks, I'm all about originality.

More to come

Dave

D-Spec
11-07-2007, 05:21
Alright a few updates.

1. Scrap the widebody [for this build ;)], too expensive and time consuming
2. Razor back is still an option, but I'm not sure about the looks with a stock body
3. Kit will be a border front (modified), toms sides and rear
4. Exhaust is either BERK or Departure 2 STY, I'll decide at the time

Got a new shipment of parts on the way. Small stuff like vent duct, hub lock, carrier bearing, passenger mount, and the mack daddy BORG S200 TURBOCHARGER! Thats right, in two days I'll start the exhaust manifold fab work! Life is good! Expect many many pics!

America's octane rating sucks, 93-95 is the top. 86 is the low end. But we don't pay $5 a gallon either. average is like 2.50 a gallon for the U.S. if you like crappy octane ratings.

Just got into this thread. This is going to be one hell of a ride. It`s not easy hitting 400rwhp so good luck. Looking stunning so far thoug:popcorn:
It's easier when you have 3litres instead of just 2. I know the 3s guys have hell getting to 400rwhp, but I assure you the 6 will be much much easier and less expensive to get there

Well i got some more stuff lying around. A complete set of turbo axles and lsd stubbs for my 93+ JDM LSD Turbo Transmission. A new 91 Mech Speedo gear so I can have gauges. Now all I need is a boot repair kit and some ATS axle cages to hold my 500hp beast and the driveline will be completed. Then I'll get a clutch/flywheel so I can bolt up the trans and git-er ready for a transplant!

On a side note. Its a running joke here in the states that not one of us puts in our engines, we just leave them on the stand. So the joke is that we all belong to the V6 Engine Stand Club, cause we just build engines and never install them. So I mocked up some tshirts for the club here and seems to get a good response. Enjoy!

They were dull and faded. They've been sanded, the trim painted black, and professionally clear coated so they won't need to be polished.

I just used some brasso and elbow grease on my 1990 rear lights and they come up a treat. :D

Done it all round the car to all the black trim pieces and they all came up brilliant best bits were the two vents just behind the side windows.

No its not a VTG, that is the new style. I could upgrade to that but I'm more worried about the car ever running at this point. My car is getting the full resto job so I'll have plenty of updates to come!

D-spec, Very nice Job.. It's been a while since I've been on the board and am looking into doing a LS/V-tech swap kinda like Seasnake did..
Where in the states are you? Or were you in Canada? I'm in Northwestern Mississippi, Very close to Memphis.
In looking at the Manifold, I kinda thought of blocking off where the T/B goes and taking off the other end 'pipe' that joins the two sides and adapting two T/B's like the twin turbo'd Nissan engines. Might give more room for your outgoing water pipe to.
Where I am, there's TONS of those acura engines/manifolds around just going to scrap.. Maybe If someone here needs or wants one.. I get a good deal on FedEx..

Each to their own though, this thing will be shifting so fast you'll not be able to notice the wheels. It's not a common thing in the states, very very few cars have the 3 spoke Advans. I've only seen one set in my city in Texas and they were fakes (replicas). I didn't like them either for the longest time, but they grew on me and I really like how they look on this car:

dave just something ive been wondering...you know the honda inlet plenum? its sitting flat on the v6 at the moment yes? so it looks like it does in the honda.... thing is the toyota v6 sits angled well back when they are mounted, what i mean is the rear bank sits about 6 or 7" lower than the front bank, this is going to leave your honda plenum sticking up at its front edge and looking a bit silly if you know what i mean.

We cant tilt the v6 straight either because it means the transmission will sit at a funny angle, was this something you knew about? i suppose its just an asthetic thing anyway.....just in case you were going for the honda engined look with the plenum sat flat on top

I'm not entirely worried about how it will look when its semi-tilted due to the mounting angle. I doubt that many people will see my engine bay once its finished...besides that, it'll still look like I stuffed a 3.2 CL motor in a Toyota so that should be good for a laugh no matter how it leans:clap:

So what's the story with the technical side of the intake? Did you just drill holes in the flange and bolt it to the stock lower 3VZ plenum? How well do the runners match up? Ported/ground them to match? And on the throttle-body.. are you using a Honda TPS and IACV?

Looks like you're having too much fun, as usual :)

Why so angry???

The hint's in my username, I'm not having a go at you... I was a a keen target shooter from the age of about 8 years old going from air rifles up to practical pistol in my twenties. Then a few sick individuals ran amock killing indiscriminately. (The gun clubs themselves had previously told the police that these people should have their firearms certificates revoked but nothing was done.) The result was some horrible deaths and the loss of confidence in legal gun holders. The government, keen to be seen to do something, anything in fact, banned all handguns, target pistols and a bunch of rifles and shotguns. So all my legally owned target pistols have been turned into paper clips. There is of course now no gun crime in the UK. Oh no, I got that bit wrong, now only the criminals have guns in the UK, yes that's what I meant to say. Just to rub salt into the wound the government said that they would issue a special waiver so that we could hold the Olympic games shooting disciplines. So we can invite other target shooters into the country but not enter ourselves... My old instructor was not impressed that he had carried a rifle during the war but was deemed unfit to own a target pistol years later. Anyway enough of my drivel, rant over. Enjoy your sport and one day I hope to take it up again.

All the best,

Owen.
