Speedo.....

Newbie here, and a mega mega newbie to the 3SGTE.....

Please be kind!!!

Only had my 1.5 2 days now, just trying to iron out a few issues......

I presume, if the Engine Management Light is on, on the dash, this will be because the speedo isnt working, right?

hi wayne glad your enjoying the delights of a 1.5 and yep they are a very quick beast ive done over 20.000 miles in mine and it still makes me smile

on the engine light issue ha sthe i think purple and white wire been cut to eliminate rev limiter in fifth
i think also it does come on if the speedo isnt working
you could also try the error codes just to make sure hth podge

Yep - the purple and white wire is connected to a reed switch on the speedo which generates the speed pulse ( 4 pulses per rev of the speedo cable ). If the speedo isn't working or if the cable is cut then it'll give you the management warning light ( there's also a fault code stored in the ECU )

Speedo not working? Check the right angled drive adaptor on the rear of the gearbox, they are notorious for eating the nylon drive gear! :-O

could you fit a switch to this wire to get rid of the limiter, intstead of cutting it?
what is the limiter set to in 5th anyway?

limiter set at 180kph I think - about 112mph
