another essential 1.5 upgrade,it bolts straight on and gives a better pedal no matter what caliper upgrade you go for.
It is 15/16ths bore instead of the mk1s 7/8ths bore...its ally instead of cast iron and generally a good thing to do!

Is anyone else using or going to use a tubby master cylinder?

paul, i wasnt planning to..!
i thought this was discussed before on mr2oc and it was decided the mk1 MC was up to the job..have your views changed lately since going with your big bollokt V6 1.5?

well the stock MC is up to the job but you know me,if it can be upgraded or modified im gonna do it...i noticed my stock mk1 cylinder gave me 10mm more pedal travel so the tubby one should cure that.....i just think as a plug n play upgrade its right up there with the easy mods.

If this is used with st185 twin pot front calipers then the ratio of fluid moved to the front brakes to piston volume should be exactly right.

bolt on upgrades are gooooooood...

ive got standard cylinder so far, and the st185 single pots with 277 x 28 vented., im going to wait and see how my old cylinder keeps up with them. any ideas people?! should thro pistons a little shorter than 10mm, going on pauls twin pots, i reckon about 5mm travel.!

i think your stock MC will be absolutely fine mate....my turbo had those massive st205 four potters and the stock MC,worked fine if a little more pedal travel,so yes going on that i reckon 5mm sounds about right....the turbo MC just takes it one stage further and is plug n play,a free mod really.

Is there a difference between the ABS and Non-ABS versions?

Seems to be a 'pick a price out of the air' market on these at the moment!

well, think I've found the answer. the pic below is of an ABS master cylinder. Note the extras.

Guess it's non-ABS master cylinders to be on the lookout for.

thats a question ive been meaning to ask.. is it possible to have an abs system on the mk1?.. since past trend indicates front wheels like to lock up a few times, especially in wet!, not that i'll be nailing mk1 or 1.5 in wet.... and with them mr t sizes brakes that aint going to help any possible instances of locking

hi adam sometimes locking up the front can be a sign that the rears are siezing

good thinking batman. i changed the pads a while back, didnt think to check to piston, the discs were good. i'll check the backs in due course..cheers

adam the ABS conversion would be a nightmare but its possible...it would mean fitment of mk2 ABS equipped hubs to a mk1 which is possible but theres still people on mr2oc having problems getting this right...then the ABS ecu will need wiring up,harness to feed through the car,ABS master cylinder....a ton of work and hassle, its do able if all of the mk2 hub fitting issues can be addressed .

i could probably deal with the hub issue's, but generally, if not's terribly easy altogether, i'll stick to dry days. you know, i got so used to the dodgy brakes on the mk1, it taught me to leave distance! thats the one car i have not crashed out of six or so (touch wood) and the one i drove the hardest. but maybe one day if i have a spare moment
