Yes Yes Yes

The old girl kicked into life tonight after a few mishaps with the electrics and a little bit of smoke but she starts and runs.

I'm dead chuffed so there is a can of lager in one hand and a beaming big smile across my face as i type.

Now just have to put the rest of it back together!!!

Sooty, you still having no luck?

Stuck with wiring. Gareth is on call so has no time, and I'm useless. Have had offer of help but need to get towcar and trailer and time off in week.

Feel free to come and wire it up if you are visiting again. :D

See below for a picture of the cooling for the car.

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2006/03/2.jpg

The rad at the front is a 1600 astra rad upside down and facing the wrong way round so that the exits don't foul the back rad. A bit of a job to plumb the bugger in. There is now twin 22mm inside diameter hoses clipped underside the car alongside the fuel tank for the chargecooler.

I plan to mount the pump at the back as there is longer any room for it at the front.

The rad at the back is a fiat coupe turbo unit with twin fans, again upside down as it connected better to the car that way.

Both rads have a extra 10mm bleed off at the top of then to which I'm fitting a house radiator bleed screw so that I can bleed the system.

The two rads and fans cost £40 from the local Scrappies and the hose was the most difficult part to source as you can't get anything bigger than a 19mm inside diameter hose in long lengths. I ended up getting it from a local hydraulics hose company for £45.

You can also see in the pic the battery which is a Motrio. My local factors supply Motrio gear as well as the local Vauxhall garage. The garage charge £38 for a five litre container of oil and the local factor charge £8.

WHAT A BUNCH OF ROBBING BAR STEWARDS!!!

Gets to see daylight for the first time in a year

The garage was a total tip so the car got out on the driveway under its own power so that I could clear out all the crap out the garage. Can see the floor again!

David Sleith

Not really made up decent thread for the build so just add to this one.

The car went for a MOT yesterday and although I knew it would fail coz I didn't bother my arse to check anything it amazingly only failed on a few things.

1) Front headlight alignment out
2) Rear nearside wheel loose - turned out I hadn't tightened the driveshaft nut up tight.
3) Rear lights not working - I had an open circuit in the engine bay somewhere so just ran a new wire through from behind the passenger seat to the boot.

All fixed so back in on Monday for the MOT and thats it on the road.

Still got plenty to do but as least its on the road. Adrian Flux has quoted me £356 insurance. Still to do the phoning round bit.

Anybody know of anywhere that will do a pucker full suspension check and setup in this area?

Murf

What tyres are you running? mine was kinda sketchy in the wet but new tyres made a massive difference!

David Sleith
26-05-2007, 18:17
Toyo proxes but due to the poly bush change and all the tracking components changed I need a full setup adjustment to get it all right.

David Sleith
26-05-2007, 18:18
Then a big bore exhaust to piss my neighbours right off

Murf
26-05-2007, 22:09
:)
Thats next on my list too, have to get a good balance between flow and loudness though, my ears dont seem to be able to tolerate a really noisy exhaust anymore!
Afraid i dont know any alignment places round here, maybe ask around on MR2OC or IMOC??

well done dave.. bank holiday monday aswell lol  . i take it you got the brake issue sorted then

Turned out the spongy feel was just down to needing a good thrashing up and down the road till the pads bedded themselves in.

Only hard a few hours this morning to get it up for a retest. I'm backshift/nightshift double shift today. Started at 2pm and here till 8am tomorrow morning.

adamh

28-05-2007, 17:32
Yeah its a long day.

Just wondering about mods now to get the power up.

Popped round to a place called the The Garage in Wishaw. Guy was road testing and tuning a MK2 turbo REV3 when I turned up.

He is suggesting a manual boost controller, Fuel cut removed and a piggyback ecu. They do all the tweaking out on the road with all the sensors clamped to the car. Someone with a laptop in the passenger side instead of a rolling road setup.

I was thinking about a Apexi AVCR boost controller but he says although they are pretty good its more major horses that need this type of thing and the manual boost controller would be cheaper and still do what I need it to do. The piggyback ECU would allow them to tweak fueling and get better power.

Who is the guru on power mods on the forum as I need advice before I splash some cash? Might just wait till I get down to JAE and pester a few well chewed ears.

Got a custom exhaust to get fabbed up over the next few weeks and the suspension geometry set up correctly.

adamh
28-05-2007, 18:35
well, your home safe with a charge cooler allready, an mbc is a good easy step for a few more pounds boost, which from 10-15 is a large step . i think i'll be putting one in until i have built a boost control. it will also be interested to see how other motors are running on other mods and turbo's and such like.. there is a power test thing at JAE so hopefully most people will put theres up and see whats what

Murf
28-05-2007, 21:10
Gotta be an AVCR for controllability. My MBC used to spike and cause overboosting and fuel cut sometimes when the weather was cold and the air was more dense.

I'd go for;
Hybrid CT26
AVCR
Rev3 ecu conversion with bigger injectors or Apexi Power FC etc etc
Chargecooler.

That will let you run 17 psi happily, about 280 BHP?

Monday will see it taxed and its booked straight in for a custom exhaust tuesday at a place called Freeflow in Shotts.

The guy gave me a number of a place in Edinburgh that will do full laser alignment on the suspension geometry. Try and get that booked in at some point when I can find a day off.

Take it easy there and horse it back :driving:

Dunno if I will get it piggy back chipped before JAE or after. Should prob take it slowly on the mods until they each bed down a bit. That plus cash is running low.

OlberJ
31-05-2007, 12:51
Let us know how you get on with Freeflow Davie, gonna have to get something made up for the V6. Would rather it was done right.

David Sleith
06-06-2007, 00:53
Exhaust now fitted 316L grade stainless 1.7mm thick.

The guys were good at Complete Auto Solutions with the Freeflow exhaust system. Was pestering the guy about his TIG welder and he stuck a length of tube in the vice and after giving a quick lesson, let me get on a practice sesson while he finished fitting my exhaust.

They are based in Shotts and their number is 01501 829444 for all you Scottish folk. Price was £200

David Sleith

Well my mother has already banned me from turning up in the car as she heard it all the way along the bypass.

Its booked into Kenneth Brown Motorsport in Hillington for a full suspension geometry setup Monday but I couldn't resist taking it out for a spin this morning. Greedy boost gauge turned up this morning too so need to get that fitted to check the boost is ok.

Stuff all freed up Adam so guy shouldn't have any bother hopefully. They have said its open ended as depends on the work involved for each car. They charge by the hour but should be around the £140 mark.

Delivered today a new set of Rota Grids for the dark blue S/C. 16's with 195/45/16 tyres

Not sure if I like them now I see them in the flesh. The gold could be just too gold. Will reserve judgement till they are on the car tomorrow.

adamh
07-06-2007, 20:33
i like them wheels. i rang a few geo-alignment places today. first one said a nifty + vat for aligning geometry.. then i said what i had and what needed doing, and the funny thing was he then said 'ive just asked the technicians and we cant do it' :hmm: quick exit for the shifty folk i think!.

i rang another place basically £20 for a geometry check.. the work follows that as necessary at usual rates. wouldnt be far off what you say

David Sleith
07-06-2007, 20:41
There isn't many places that will do a full setup. They only have the standard Kiwk Fit tracking check up and set for about the £20 quid mark.

It has taken me weeks to find this guy. Best bet is to go into some of the local motorsport racing places (not the kid on boy racers shops) and see who they use.

adamh
07-06-2007, 20:49
i rang a place stating wheel alignment first he then refered me to this other chap.. i better give him another ring and see if he's got the kit as you say to do more than wheel alignment. not many places down here either!.
