The tranny fluid goes to a radiator, i just cut the lines and drained it like that. iirc tis at the front with the rest of the rads.

petec
10-03-2007, 01:32
Ok so we're down to just separating the drive shafts from the box, we've managed the nearside but are having issues with the offside bolts. These are the only thing stopping us taking the engine out. We've been trying for hours and are calling it a day.

We just seem to be damaging the bolts, is it possible just to drill these mothers out ?

Jaemus

best of luck y'all!

Paul Woods

jesus!

"
Chris, who DOES have a girlfriend, confessed: “A nice car for me is a feast for the senses. It’s about smells, feelings and tastes. If I see a gorgeous Mercedes I know I’d love to jump into bed with it.”

whats the world coming to!

chris just cut through the shaft if the bolts are rounding off, then when the whole lot is out remove the shaft from the gearbox,or if you think you can remove the supported shaft in situ have a go,but its a bitch even when out of the car.

Id cut the shaft as close to the inner CV as poss and worry about it later.

Yeah, nothing like it. Glad I had a cop with me on my dash around harrogate - especially as I think I scared a few OAP's walking around in your estate. :D

Pretty funny actually, on my way back to my cousins over ilkley moor, went passed a layby with a load of 306's in it. Shot passed, came back around, popped in for a chat - then showed them the proper way to leave... in full V6 roar style. Bet I'm mentioned on a few pug forums after that.

Quite ironic that I have been to an mr2 meet in my pug 306 when my 2 as being worked on... and now a 306 meet in my mr2. Nice kind of symmatry. lol

Anyhow - back on topic - glad to hear things are going nicely - and you hadn't even got the mr2 engine out when I left. :D Well done.

Yeah - The turbo mongoose exhuast I had on before was loud (hence why I had the magnex fitted later) - but its not a patch on others lately - especially that one that was essentially two exhaust systems, 1 per bank. Saw the vid clip of that in a long tunnel - and it was LOUD!!

Progress report please Chris

chris99
22-03-2007, 10:46
progress has almost stopped due to my shifts. I have now received my new clutch, Engine mount + Fly from Tony , Fly bolts from toyota, dizzy cap, radiator , egr plates and poly resin stuff for engine mounts through the post.:freak3:

I have fitted the engine mount and poured the stuff to make the mounts. The mount is a first class bit of kit which went straight on and looks factory - its well worth the money

I have been cleaning various parts and painting them up in the odd times i've been free.

I'm aiming for clutch, fly and gearbox re-mounted today and hope to try for engine back in this weekend:eek2:

Sorry if this post is rubbish because i was working last night and got home just after 7am. The postman just woke me up with the dizzy cap:doh: :violin: :snooty:

No the fecker kept on banging on the door untill i got up though!

Fly and clutch refitted today. I remember that some of the holes need drilling out to fit the gearbox. I had a quick look and it looks like the two where the drive shafts come out of the box (but on the engine side) that need drilling. Can anyone confirm this before i ruin something please:fingersx:

Whilst looking at the shocking pile of bits today i found a number of weights of various shapes that i guess are to do with vibration. There is a square, a triangle and a cylinder shaped one. Do i need these? if so please tell me where they go:freak3:

Paul Woods
22-03-2007, 19:30
no dont drill any holes out chris, you shouldnt need to do that....i had to drill them out with a turbo box i once used on a v6 but never on an NA box,the bolts should pass through the block as normal.

Hi there matey,

My donor camry had just had a service and has only done 60,000 miles. I decided to just install it and deal with any issues later to reduce the costs involved in the swap.

I just want to say a MASSIVE thaks again to Paul for all his help in this project. There is no way at all this would have happened without him. I owe you one for sure:thumbsup:

Just a few odd jobs now to finnish her off and im on the road- OH BABY! :jump:

I have just been doing loads of the smaller jobs like wrapping the wiring back up. I took the car for its first drive up the road last night. A bit naughty as there is no air filter yet but was much fun! Running a bit rough but i hope that will change with an air filter.

I lifted this from http://www.sopertek.co.uk/mr2/service/index.htm

A core function of the ECU is to keep an eye on fuelling and in addition to the standard map (set by Toyota) the ECU learns and adapts depending on factors like fuel quality, knocking, climatic factors, and driving style. Over a period of time the ECU may develop a conservative fuelling map which robs the car of performance (or if there's a problem). Although the ECU continually adapts, it's very slow at doing so and can be reset to speed up the process.

Preferably after a drive (car at full operating temperature), park, remove the key, and pull the engine lid release. In the engine bay is a fuse box. Remove the 7.5A ECU-B and 15A EFI fuses. In the front compartment (not the cabin) remove the 7.5A ECU-B fuse... and then wait for at least two minutes before replacing them all. With the fuses re-seated you can start the car and go for a drive and already warmed up you can drive the car hard if you wish (showing the ECU exactly how it should be fuelling!)

Don't be alarmed if the car is sluggish at first -- the ECU has been reset and is having to learn from scratch. If it's reset when the car is cold, the lack of performance and hesitation will be more noticeable, but will pass after a good 10-15 minute journey where the throttle can be exercised.

NOTE: Resetting the ECU not only removes the existing fuelling map but also any error codes which were stored. This is handy for any one-off events which may have placed the ECU in 'safe mode' but should a problem still be evident then the ECU may instantly revert back to its conservative settings. If this is the case then any issues should be addressed accordingly.

I Know its talking about the MR2 ECU but i'm guessing the're similar.
