Well I got my 2 back out of impound on monday so she's ready to begin her 3vz conversion :D

I'm taking her to the workshop beginning of next week after the 4s n rotas car show (otherwise would be there now)... hehe, just need to pick up the motor... have an engine mount already, having the current flywheel machined/resurfaced and redrilled once they get the 3s out... ECU will be coming from Brett, yay, I'm just so excited it's finally happening!!!

Ok, so I rung the wreckers on monday saying I was keen on the motor... went there today and they had fucking sold it!! I rung round all the other wreckers down here and only one had a good one and wanted 850 + gst for it and didn't include wiring loom! Fucking bullshit I say! I cried... now I need to find a new motor :s and it was set to go to the workshop next week... :'(

ya mate, i dunno about over there, but in sydney i had to settle for one for $800 without a loom or any other accessories. wreckers want heaps for them, and no one sells them privately. best of luck tho dude!

yea good ones dont come cheap from wreckers over here bridget
mine cost me $1300 but came with absolutely everything and also has a turn key warranty (basically if theres something wrong with the engine when i first start it up then theyll either fix it or provide me with another engine)
so i didnt mind paying that much to be honest

in nearly all situations you're better off buying a donor car than an engine by itself. There's 3vz Camrys and Windoms on trademe all the time for around $1-2K, by the time you sell left over parts the engine will cost stuff all, and you can check it runs before you buy it AND you know you will have everything you need to make it work

Well bought a motor yesterday afternoon for $1350 including all accessories. So it'll be going to the workshop monday/tuesday :D

I could buy a donor car but frankly I can't be bothered with the car and selling the parts, lol... (plus there may be lots up north but there really aren't down south)

gutted, that's freaking heaps. There's always ones at pick-a-part and such, complete motor would be around $500 with everything, most likely need to replace headgaskets on them though but you'd do that on a 3vz anyway. Good luck with the swap! Was your car originally NA or turbo? Using NA or turbo gearbox on the swap?

DRTY.2

It's NA, using the NA box...

Jaemus
12-03-2007, 05:47
go the NA box! im optimistic about it, but i think lack of LSD will become painful, it was already with the 3SGE, but whatre ya gonna do eh? spend more on the gearbox than what the motor cost? i think not!

DRTY.2
13-03-2007, 03:08
l yeah... I'll eventually get a 93+ turbo box... as my box's second gear syncros are out and I have to double clutch coming down into 2nd...

Yeah I had the idea to do it myself eh!! But I know nothing about mechanics... all I know is how to check the oil, fill it and how to put a pod filter on, lmao. Have thought about doing an automotive engineering course tho...

This is where i started. I had minimal or no knowledge about engines and i am currently in the last bit of a total rebuild of my rev3 3sgte engine. All you need are tools, TB, somewhere to work at it, dedication and your good to go.

You get stuck on certain stuff and frustration set it more than a few times but i think the satisfaction of doing it yourself will be worth it. That is if the engine don`t blow up as i have a small feeling mine will do:hidesbehi

Nobody know anythin about a car/engine before they go at it, so get that angle grinder connected and get to it!

I had no idea how an engine worked untill i took one to pieces. Makes sooo much more sense when it's there infront of you in bits.

Get stuck in!

Lol yeah.. I have 0 tools and nowhere to do it, so yeah... lol.

So I decided fuck how much it's gonna cost me, everyone's fucking me round so I'm taking it to a garage to get done, lol. They're doing research at the moment, and I have to ring back in a few hours to get a rough idea of how much it's gonna cost.

My goal is to have it running by the end of the month :D

Well I'm ringing the shop tomorrow hopefully with it good to start... (god I hate long weekends... shoulda done this Friday...) But geeze, this car depresses me sometimes!! Cruising in a diesel sprinter isn't much fun at all... lol (though last night I decided to launch it like I would the 2 and we got some loss of traction, hehe, fun fun)
