Pulled some codes this eve, and I appear to be getting a 43 on it's own - the BGB says this is the following:

(43) Starter signal - No STA signal to ECU unit, engine speed reaches 800rpm with vehicle not moving.
Ignition switch circuit / ignition circuit / ECU

I don't seem to have any problems with the starter - so what could this mean?

Cheers people
Ash

well I'll ask the obvious - Are you getting a starter feed at the ecu whilst cranking?

I don't know matey... how would I test - and why does the ECU need to know?

43 will occur if one of the following happens...

you dont have the starter energiser wire connected to the ecu...pin A11 from memory? id blame the person that wired it up if its not connected

If it is connected then the only other thing that will give a 43 is if the cars been bump started down a hill without using the starter motor since its conversion?

Would this cause the engine to go into limp mode even though the turbo is fine? :hidesbehi

as far as im aware a code 43 wont affect anything apart from logging the code,so no safety mode...95% sure anyway.

So you don't owe him for the new turbo then Paul? Phew.

I think there might be less piss take of Ash's missed earthing point now.

Glad it's all getting sorted lads.

Owen.

lol @ Owen... :)

So what's the wasy way of finding the starter energiser wire - ECU pin finding should be easy enough.

And while i'm here, how do I test that it's the correct wire - wiring a 12v feed into the ECU would be a pretty shit xmas present to myself ;) lol

probe the wires with a multi meter to test for the +ve cranking signal / feed first. I've got a spare* rev 1 ecu if you happen to put yours to peace..
