Last night on the way home my exhaust blew, so i took it in this morning to have it looked at in the hope it could be welded or it was a gasket blown or sumthin equally simple. Unfortunately not :

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2006/11/1.gif

The guy quoted me ?230 to replace it. Just the flexi part between backbox and downpipe. It can't be welded cos of where it snapped. I wouldn't want it welded there anyways.

Now obviously am planning on putting in the V6 but i need to know pretty much exactly what it'll cost me to do it. Anyone have a rundown of the parts and costs i'll need to do it in a week?

Or do i go for a different system just now and hold off till i can do the V6 properly with brakes and suspension etc?

I have no idea about aftermarket exhausts, is there any ~?200/250 that i could buy, use for a while and then sell when am ready to do the conversion?

Or is there an exhaust i can get which i could then use for the V6?

I need to get this done pretty quickly as i need a car for interviews and wotnot (currently unemployed to add to it). So your recommendations please.

Cheers,
Olie

Ok, from speaking to Sam i might well be able to do this a lot cheaper.

Phoned a local custom exhaust place and the boy reconned about ?150 to make up and fit a flexi pipe and standard pipe to go between the downpipe and the backbox (possibly lotus). Does this sound a decent price?

I was thinking that the flexi exhaust pipe sumone else had used would be much cheaper but i take it you still have to weld on the connectors to fit to the downpipe and backbox?

Oh yes, and what size is the standard downpipe? And also the lotus backbox?

Anyone done this on a standard mk1, not a 1.5?

Olber, are you sure this is the flexi pipe? Looks like the fixed pipe into the main silencer box. If it is, and it's the standard Toyota back box, I have a hardly used 'box plus that wee bit of pipe which you could have for say ?50 (?100 new). If you get through to Edinburgh at all I could bring it in and you could pick it up.

2nd hand stainless system would be what i would go for!
I bought a janspeed for ?100 for my old Mk1 and fitted it myself, not too bad a job at all :)
Once you get the V6 done, flog it for what you paid for it!

It's not the flexi pipe that's busted, it's the central silencer at the backbox end that's split (like u sed John).

Jus found this : http://www.onlineautomotive.co.uk/product_details.php?part_id=44091&type=part&table=1

It's snapped at the right hand side of this pic. Not paying ?100 jus for the mid silencer tho, no flexi etc.

I think what i wanna do is get the elise backbox and get the parts to be welded up. Jus need to find a decent place to get the parts from.

Any suggestions for local exhaust part dealers?

Righto, looked on the Jetex website and found this http://www.jetex.co.uk/website/custom_parts.php?mat=Stainless&dia=2.0+inch

These look like fair prices to make up the parts for the exhaust?

90* Bend ?13.37
2 x 1m pipe ?42.58

EDIT :* Correct web link and Stainless steel prices. *

What will i do with the downpipe end? Can i re-use the flexi pipe i have at the moment or should i fork out for a new one?

And can i re-use the diamond shapped parts that connect to the backbox, that the bolts go thru? *Advised to remove and weld all into one pice exhaust*

Ah - no what I have is the big silencer box that runs along the back of the car, with the tailpipes.

And if a mod would be so kind as to move this to the exhaust forum i'd be most greatfull.

Cheers.

Ah - no what I have is the big silencer box that runs along the back of the car, with the tailpipes.

Cheers for the offer anyways.

I reckon this could work out quite cheap if i can get the parts ordered. Jus need sumone to fab them up. Any ideas?

I'd do it myself but i don't have the tools or the kanow-how.

Have i ballsed up big time? Think i've ordered aluminium parts for the exhaust. Will this mean i can't weld it to the flexi pipe?

Got the lotus backbox and had a loow at extending the tailpipes out.I think that on the side where the exhaust pipe goes in it will fowl any extension pipe i put on there.

So do i need to remove the existing exhaust pipe from the backbox, right up to the silencer, then attach new pipe (or same one) at a lower angle?

I should've taken pics. Will get sum tomorrow night.

Have i fecked up with the exhaust pipes tho? :(

if you have ordered aluminuimised pipes then they are ok to weld to, stainless is the other type but they are harder to weld -need specialised welder. aluminuim exhausts would melt under the heat!!! lol lol:hidesbehi

5 Dunce points for me. I meant aluminised.

Sound, any ideas about extending the tailpipes?

Does the exhaust pipe that goes into the silencer need to be set at a lower angle?

if its the lotus one then i just turned it upside down and made pipes to fit. the extending the tailpipes is weld some pieces in the middle of each tail pipe piece:thumbsup:

OlberJ
04-12-2006, 18:10
Can i ask why you turned it upside down?

The tailpipes are jus clamped on so i was simply gonna put sum pipe in between so it can be swapped back if need be.

I'll get some pics of what i mean but the pipe that comes out the silencer looks like it'll fowl any extensions i put on there.

lodgeman

i turned it upside down coz i wanted the pipe a short as poss from the flexi- the rest had rusted away.

the tailpipes were then at the back and didnt stick out too much!

This is wierd, my flexi pipe is closer to the left hand side than the right. :hmm:

It's 340mm ish from the left hand side of the silencer which is about 750mm in total.

I see you've replaced the pipe all the way up to the silencer on there, i think that's what i'll need to do. Need sum more pipes now.

I think i need another 90degree pipe.

lodgeman
04-12-2006, 19:18
mine was a s2 is that the same as yours?

OlberJ
04-12-2006, 19:22
I think so, yeah.

If i get another 90degree pipe i'm confident i can piece it together and it'll only need welded for hangers and at the flexi pipe.

Cheers Lodge.

It's now snapped right through, unfixable.

Anyone know anybody in or around Glasgow that can weld the parts together for me this week?

I could really do with it getting fixed before new year.

Cheers,
Olie

I'll show you where it is tomorrow if you want to pop in and see them?

Murf

OlberJ
26-12-2006, 23:16
That'd be sweet mate, as i say it's just welding onto existing flexi pipe and sum hangers, oh and re-angling the pipe that's there. If you could find out when they're open that'd be sweet.

Murf

Sorry dude, i phones them and there was no answer so i text my mate and he's not back at work till the new year :(
