View Full Version : Whats going to be different with a 5vz swap.
I've been reading everything from here on the 3vz swap and know just about everything a mecanicaly inept person can know about it, but now I'm looking at the 5vz-fe as it may be easier to get here in Oz.
So I'm wondering what the differences are going to be with the swap? Will the ponysport mount fit?
Thanks guys.

Im not up on this swap and we cant even get our mits on 5vz's here in the UK but the best place for info on the 5vz is on www.mr2board.com (http://www.mr2board.com) have a look in the mk2-v6 section.
hmm. thanks guys. Might just go back to 3vz and 1 mz hunting. Still having trouble getting a complete setup out of one car though and its annoying as I have no idea which ecu runs what engine and what loom i would need for it.
Fun and games as always. But I'm learning lots. :)
thanks 4v6 but we can get the manual ecu down here and it looks like we have two different revisions of 3vz-fe aswell. One has a dizzy the other coil packs. I'm thinking that the dissy engines ecu is tuned for 185hp and the coil pack ecu is tuned for 200hp since I know that 185 and 200hp versions exist down here as well.
Getting closer its just the loom thats bugging the hell out of me. I wonder how much one would cost new of toyota or perhaps there is some other company making replecement looms?
So if i get you right you are saying trace back which ecu has say red and blue wires on the afm sensor or the like to find out which ecu I need.
That could be difficult for two reasons 1. I dont know what any of the sensors are or even where to find them on the engine :D 2. The engine wont be comming to me it will be getting freighted from the engine shop to my step-fathers place which means that the engine is currently 800km away when it gets to my step father it will be 600km away and the distance the engine will travel will be 400km. So we wont be seeing the engine. :( But we do know that it has less than 90,000km on it so should be in good condition. We will tear it down but thats another story.
I was thinking that toyota must have new wiring looms in spare parts and I'm beginning to thing bugger it. I can buy either coil over or dizzy engines both are in stock, and if I can get a loom of toyota then all I really need to do is find an ECU for a manual camry 3vzfe and work out the loom of toyota and engine of the shop. Sounds like a plan, so where are the holes in this plan there are bound to be some. :)
So time to lube up my bum and find out how much a loom will cost. Seriuosly its just a bunch of wires so it cant cost anymore than $1000 :D
And I found out something interesting. But I do need to clarify it. In this country we had the toyota 4runner up til 96 (I think). I though it had the 5vz-fe in it but apparently not (3vz-e). So the one car that does have it for certain is the 97-2002/3 prado. Needless to say that engine is quite expen$ive. :D
ODB2 well its a good thing the build will take place in the middle of the country so I can swear my self silly :D
