Ok guys, I'm not sure if anyone will know this but there may be another option for the v6 motor for you.

It looks like the Holden Apollo may have the same 3 litre V6 as the Camry.
Not totally sure as the info I found only stated that the Holdens are basically rebadged/reengineered Camry's.

Not sure how accurate it is but seems as they share the same haynes manual it maybe another option for you guys.

Also not sure if it has been mentioned before and havn't time to look, gotta go back to work.

If im thinking right then the Holden Apollo is a late 80s Camry rebadged as a holden so i dont think it will have the 3VZ-FE.

There is the Toyota Lexan in the 90s but that it is just a Rebadged Holden Comodore

ok I stand corrected.

altho this haynes thing seems to suggest something different.

correct weight!! There is an exact rebadge of the car we are searhing for as a holden apollo. well bugger me why didnt I think of that. :banghead:

Now to make sure it has the same engine. I wonder if holden are going to be nice to me and call it a 3VZ when I get on the phone.

I might be able to grab a holden ECU to run the sucker. For anyone interested a 3VZ ECU is AU$1100 from MrT.

Thanks Paff.

yeah, the apollo will be an option, but it will still be pretty close to being as expensive as a camry. plus the engine will likely have holden badges on it which will look a bit odd in the MR2 :)

in other news, i just got my 3VZ from ebay, for $800, but i need a few more things, like the ECU and AFM, coil, igniter, vac tank, etc. im excited!

Is that a 3vz-fe manual or auto box ecu? :D

AU $1100 is more than i paid for the 3vz. its also about 1/7th of what i paid for the MR2.

im gonna trawl through the wrecking yards, searching for a manual one

Fizzy that was a manual ecu.

I found plenty of ecu's around the place (around $220 on average) but my problem was that I could not find a loom to match. with ~25 different looms being used for the 92 model year camry. I was so confused

Didnt have the cash to go aftermarket so the project was canned.

As well as there being two versions of the 3vz in this country so be careful on your ecu choice.
