Paul Woods

lol ive decided to take a few days out to get this mk2 v6 into a decent coat of paint....the current finish is shittier than osama bin ladens jockstrap... :)

rear spoiler removed....
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2006/07/52.jpg

passenger side of turd... you can almost see a reflection! i said almost...
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2006/07/53.jpg

The autoshitta front spoiler was badly cracked so ive reinforced that with steel braces and i'll be using fibral to mend it...
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2006/07/54.jpg

Look at the depth of shine in that bonnet! its like looking in a mirror! sarcasm is not my strong point.
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2006/07/55.jpg

So i began using this magical device that apparently restores the shine! thats a 240 disc on a DA by the way....
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2006/07/56.jpg

Subtle as a brick....thrown at a greenhouse :)
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2006/07/57.jpg

Hope you are all enjoying the turd polishing so far, more to come.

Good work mate. You doing her red again?? When will you have her finnished? That v6 badge will get a few people scratchin there heads.

Paul Woods
05-07-2006, 18:25

lodgeman
05-07-2006, 18:30

Paul Woods
05-07-2006, 18:33

Ut-oh, pic two distinctly shows that Paul has come over all monster trucks on Lilly's suspension...

O.S.

Paul Woods
06-07-2006, 07:05
ah dont worry mr sooty, your exhaust is being done alongside this excercise! and along with lodges reshimming, and halims swap, and A5 FBR's swap and sticking a V6 into my mates mk2,and breaking a camry and somehow in amongst all of that doing day to day servicing and whats left over goes to lily! so i thought donate a few days to the mk2 so she turns up at JAE looking semi sensible!

I'll have your exhaust and other bits done by next wednesday so we can plan collection of the beast shortly

not a bad idea that malc, the centre bit chopping i mean, never thought about that before....will see how time permits, dont know how much i can fanny around with the current workload as it is.

4V6,its the north of england mate,we are not what you would call "cultured" lol

owen lilys on axle stands you donkey although i might as well get used to that look with a v8 in the back :)

Turd polishing :(

Dont you guys know the SW20 = Snap oversteer Weapon 2.0 , And who dosnt find snap oversteer a packet of laughs. (well probably pedestrians, all those people with a toyota emblim embedded on their leg).

But you get my drift.

My word Paul that is an interesting buffing technique. :D

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2006/07/102.jpg

what a lazy bast i am....masked the rear lights rather than remove them, couldnt be arsed!
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2006/07/103.jpg

And with that all done it was time to apply some paint......are you ready for this owen? its your fantasy come true......

I know have a pink mk2! :gay:

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2006/07/106.jpg

ok before you get all excited this is a high build primer coat ,phew! thank F for that! I mixed a little red in with some high build cream 4+1 to at least get the primer into the same area of the spectrum as red....it'll cover much easier like this.

Tomorrow this gets flattened off with 800 grade and lots of water to leave a mirror flat surface for the red paint....and no i am NOT keeping it pink!

I have my pain in the arse to fit veins bumper on the front of the car now and it covers the bottom front part of my new wings.

Would I be better taking it apart again to spray the wing as its gonna leave a large part without any paint on it or just dinitrol that bit later?

This rubbing down malarky is a bit of a mundane job. I even did the ironing I got that bored.

lodgeman
11-07-2006, 18:29
looking good matey! what is it with you and colours ? first mpyellow and now gay pink? do you want to tell us something? perhaps there's a locker you need to come out of?:gay: you can tell us ! we wont tell anyone:liar:

Paul Woods
11-07-2006, 18:38

Paul Woods
12-07-2006, 18:33
more turd polishing!

today the whole car got demasked and 800 grade wet flatted back down to leave a perfectly matt and marble smooth surface...a big bucket of water and lots of elbow grease...then masked back up for the second time ready for painting. The whole thing has been washed and wiped down several times with panel wipe to clean the surfaces completely....i hope this turns out good cos times up for JAE!

13-07-2006, 18:52
Lookin really nice Paul. So no laquer needed then?

Paul Woods
13-07-2006, 18:56
cheers shugs, nope no laquer, thats just used for matt basecoats, solid 2k colours just apply straight from the gun,you can of course stick a few coats of laquer over the top of a solid 2k but there isnt much point really.

Shugsta

Stunning Paul!

You're not helping the MK1 cause one iota there matey. Hmm, JAE could be the time I turn to the dark side. Maybe I should start collecting MK2 rear bumpers now for all the backwards into a tree moments that make MK2 ownership such a unique experiance. I wonder if IMOC sell six packs of the damn things?

should'nt need to john, unless you get a run in it 8O just lots of light coats

Cheers Lodge. I can see some painting coming at some stage ... still got a fair bit of welding to do but slowly, slowly getting there.

Paul Woods
14-07-2006, 06:56
cheers fellas, its a quickie respray but i actually think its turned out better than most bodyshops charge for! do the maximum amount of prep in the time you have and it pays off i guess.

No sanding between coats, just one very light coat to start with, then i put on heavier coats as i go ending up with one last very heavy "kiss coat" that leaves the surface all liquidy and smooth......bloody dust though,nightmare...plus every fly within a hundred yard radius dons its kamikaze headband and decides to commit its last act as a shit eater by trying to ruin my finish....exactly what they think lying on their backs with wings stuck to paint is going to achieve i dont know???? maybe they are mk1 diehards! lol

sparky no turd polishing updates just yet,we are attempting the impossible by starting a mk2 V6 conversion on friday and having a running completed conversion by this thursday so my mate can come to JAE as well in a mk2 V6,a quickie 6 day conversion lol

day 1 in the big brother house....paul has removed a camry engine from its bay and got it ready for install

day 2 the mk2 engine bay is gutted out and prepped for install

day 3 the v6 is in the bay and its back on its suspension

days 4,5,6 still to come....madness! phil you got any pics of us in action mate,i forgot to take some.

Sparky this respray cost me ?120 in paint and materials, plus a lot of hard work....still needs flatting and polishing which will take place sometime this week before JAE...damn ive still got to paint the engine lid and boot spoiler,a few late nights at the plough this week i think.

Oh for a while today we had three of the UK's four mk2 V6's all in the same place! :)

oops just spotted the other thread, cheers phil!

jasper we got all greased up and..... :naughty:

Paul Woods
19-09-2006, 16:37
thought id finish off the turd polishing thread with a diamond brite treatment...wonderful stuff, two bottles...wash car,dry it,then apply the first bottle over the entire surface so its all cloudy....then 15mins later apply the second bottle, this reacts with the first bottle and then 20 mins later you buff the whole lot off to reveal a very very deep glossy shine with that "always wet" look...

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2006/09/194.jpg
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2006/09/195.jpg

Diamond brite isnt cheap but the results are amazing, water runs off the surface instead of pooling and this shine will stay like this for 6 months.

John
19-09-2006, 16:47
Fuck a d**k paul that is a stunning result ... I'm inspired now, I may actually be able to get my mk1 looking vaguely shiny (in a few months ...)

How much is that Diamond Brite and where do you get it from?

Paul Woods
19-09-2006, 17:04

Nice turd paul, looks pretty fresh

Is it actually any easier to do polish with the diamond brite stuff or regular polish / wax?

I tried to polish mine with the electric polisher, the bathroom now needs re-decorating :woods:

Paul Woods
20-09-2006, 06:44
shorty do you mean equipment used for the whole respray or just the diamond brighting? that was just 3 cloths, one to apply bottle 1,one to apply bottle 2 and one to polish both of them off.

Goldy if you look closely you can see the flies circling around it and theres a bit of toilet roll stuck to her ass! :)

Yep its easier to diamond brite than it is to polish/wax...i did phils mk2v6 bonnet last year with it too, thats still super shiney.

Agree with Peebs, you shouldn't have a BIN price, that way you could see their value or at least what someone is prepared to pay for it.

Good luck!

EDIT: Now get Lil finished!

Mick Sheavills, he buys everything MR2. He lives up Paul's way, the rep for the North East Mk1 Club. He'll take you all the way if you are serious about buying this.

Fairy Nuff :)

Hey here's an idea, is there a 246 Dino conversion kit?

Strikes me that the proportions would be better, looks nicer anyway (there's that personal taste thing again) and it was a v6 originally.

Right here's some info I've just spent a few minutes digging up:

................. MR2 Mk2 ..... 246 ..... 355
Wheelbase .... 2400 ....... 2339 .... 2451
Height ......... 1239 ....... 1115 ..... 1171
Width .......... 1699 ....... 1699 ..... 1899
Front track ... 1450 ....... 1425 ..... 1513
Rear track .... 1470 ....... 1430 ..... 1615

And lastly this guy claims to be able to sell 246 body panels:

sure you can see where I'm aiming :)

hmmm thats the europsort guy ! hope those panels are better than the quality of thier kits !

I nearly put a dino replica once that was based on the beetle floor pan but it was justa rolling shell and needed a lot to finish but based on a modern sprts car would be the nuts !

...wanders of to papershop to look for kit car mags...
