ive joined the wires together and joined them to the 2 pin plug next to the fuse box but it doesnt work. does anyone have a pic of the exact plug?

also when i turn my lights onto sidelights they do not pop up only the bottom lights next to the indicator come on, they pop up when i turn the main lights on but the main beam does not work.
if i turn all lights off and flash the main beam on the normal beam comes on.
the rear lights work
fog lights work
not tried brake lights yet

it did work fine before i swapped the engine
whats going on?????
cheers in advance guys

Fronts sound like they're missing an earth.

must have the wrong plug but even with this undone the lights are unchanged

haha - could be a good "anti-traffic light screen washer" - as soon as they approach with the bucket and filthy sponge, just clutch down, hook it in reverse and watch them fly a few meters... lol

definately the correct plug, brakelights work and dip works now, just got no reverse light and no main beam

this is bollocks! should i have power from this plug by the fuse box? because i dont. i would have thought the switch in the gearbox would be in series with the reverse light circuit, therefore having 12v running through it. does it work like this?

mart you are on the right plug for the reverse light arent you? what happens when you disconnect the plug and join the two pins together with ignition on? reverse lights should light up.

there are 2 the same, doh, one a bit further up the loom, ive sorted the reverse light now, its just the headlights. ok i'll try to explain

sidelights work ok, headlights work though it shows on the dash as being main beam although they do not appear to be bright enough to be the main beam.
on the indicator stalk- forward should be main beam on though it is main beam off,
middle position should be main beam off though it is normal headlights on showing main beam on the dash,
back position should be and is flash though again with normal headlight.

so to recap i have no main beam, i have the normal headlight indicating main beam and the indicator stalk main beam on/off position backwards.

have you checked the fuses in the front compartment?

yes fuses are fine, could it be anything to do with the wiring up i have done in the back or would this not affect the front lights?
oh and this may be a silly question but do you need the high beam to pass an mot?

Mart, check the earths. reasoning?
When you put the headlamps on, they're earthing through the main beam circuit (hence the dash light coming on). When you try for full beam, both lights are getting 12v but now there's nowhere to earth, thus nothing comes on.

Take the earths off, clean them up or for testing, put a separate earth in.

the whole cars totally dead now mate, im jinxed when it comes to cars, tbh i should stay well away from them, been 5 months now without a car with one thing after another going wrong, just really pissed off.

ok, got a multimeter?

Check battery voltage - could just be that the battery has gone flat with all the testing! Expect to see a minimim of 12.4v. Anything less I'd say get the charger on there.

And stay positive old chap - I was ready for packing it all in last night after spending 4 hours trying to cut the bloody seat frames off the old seats! This morning it seems almost laughable! :)

Have you checked the earths??

yes, ive also put an extra on, would i be right in thinking that all the wiring due to the swap is nothing to do with the headlights!? if so it may be something to do with the immobiliser and alarm i removed though ive checked all the wires and they appear correct.

well it definately did work before and it is an mot failure, is there some way i can rip out the wires and just fit some toggle switches to control the lights?
i dont care what it looks like i just need a working car. cheers jeff

id say with 99% certainty the lights have nothing to do with the swap, unless as you say its to do with the immobiliser you chopped out mate....the lights take their main beam from the front fusebox via a relay that is controlled by your stalk and also by the headlight switch.

ive checked all fuses, ive changed the relays, all the wiring is correct, ive no idea now unless both swicthes broke at exactly the same time.
thanks anyways paul
