Have noticed that when i even gently rest my foot on the clutch and am still accelerating, the engine revs away like mad.

Have tried driving at 30mph and putting it in 4th, foot completely off the clutch and flooring it, the revs and speed rise slowly. Same in 5th gear.

It's only when i gently depress the clutch that it appears to be slipping.

Can the clutch be re-adjusted so it bites a bit further down or do i jus need to learn not to ride the friggin clutch? :shhh:

Normally biting point at the top of the clutch means its worn. In your case it sounds like its nearing the end of its life. Though i'm no expert on mk1 clutch adjustment so it may be adjustable.

if you look at the bottom of the clutch pedal I belive there is a thread with 2 nuts on it, release the one and you canadjust th freeplay in the pedal, that might help

also make sure clutch fluid is topped up and maybe bleed it to make sure all o.k, worth it before sorting a new clutch

it happened on 2 of mine and it turned out to be a worn clutch on both occasions

Ok so worst case scenario, how much are we talking for a new clutch?
