Hi folks...was kindly given a set of Driveshafts to replace my ones with knackered CV joints. (Mahoosive Thanks to Paul and Robert!)

I think i've got the procedure fairly well sorted in my head...

Wheel off, crack nut with handbrake off, knock out pin, remove nuts at other end and remove....

Before I start...do I need to replace the pin I knock out? Or will it go back in?

Need to take a sewing machine to my mum (dont ask) later so dont want to end up stuck with the car on stands!

Cheers guys!

always best to replace the split pin as they usually bend when you take them out! also it is a safety feature!cost peanuts and areeasily purchased from any hardware store:mrgreen:

I've not changed just shafts in situ before, only engines etc, not sure if you can get enough movement with mounts intact, i'd imahine a pry bar help. grease the splines aswell.
moving this one to mk1 section ... with grease and pry bar :-)

your method sounds right millentubby, you'll have to undo the suspension arms from the hub as well otherwise you wont be able to pullt it out far enough to get the driveshaft out

nope! they slide out without moving suspension arms, just undo the 6 bolts at the inner, undo the outer nut,hit with soft hammer, pull inner cv joint back off gearbox and drop below gearbox,it will then slide out of the hub, drivers side is easier.

You can pick up shed loads really cheap - saw a set of 500 for ?4 odd at a hall tool sale in Beds... doesn't matter what size you use i'd imagine - as long as it just does the job!!

lol so the pin size is proportional to my resolution? lol

What I mean is....I want to buy the bits before I start taking the car apart!

Anyone got a pic or the part? Am hoping to change the shafts 2mrw as i'll not get the chance for a wee while!

Anything I should check while i'm underneath? I've been getting a loud clicking since the accident from both sides of the car - increasing click frequency with speed, Goes away when wheel is on the inside of a corner and gets worse when the wheel is on the outside of the corner....CV joints on their way out is my guess...correct? Thats the reason why i'm changing shafts.

Oh FFS i've been a complete div....

I've seen that part a million times and removed it and everything on my breaker!

For some reason I had the pin in my head as some sort of roll-spring pin...and the splined part that is proud of the disk brake was something different to the drive-shaft.

Thanks for the pic Lodgeman!...now somebody slap be for being an idiot
