I'm sure all the air is out of the system, and the pressure is still high, so i'm now considering a weekend of Head Gasket change!

Brilliant!

If only someone with a healthy MK1 can describe how hard there coolant pipes are getting!

rick before you pull the heed off check thermostat and water pump blades havent come adrift, seen this before....

right, Done a head gasket check with a system that detects gases in the coolant, nothing at all.

Temps are fine, heating works 100%, so flow aint an issue. Must be correct and the pipes are failing 1 by 1.

MK1 for sale with full MOT!!!!!!!

hmmm the pressures coming from somewhere, has the pump been inspected? arse pain taking it off just to check the blades but i have seen it before....also i wouldnt rule out HG just yet, some of them are that fine a hairline break that they dont fail the HG gas test but do a few motorway miles and get some proper heat into the engine and the break opens up and you get pressurization, just a thought.

Thing is, Haynes manual...

Look at the minimum coolant operating pressure, 100% the same as the filler cap rating...

yep, rovers are famous for this, would only do it when they got to a certain temp then the crack in hg would give and pressurize the system and boil it over

are the pipes going solid as soon as the engine is running? or does it take the car time to warm up and then they go hard?

is it just a 1.6 or is it a tubby conversion?

are ALL the coolant pipes going hard? if some arent then there could be a indication of a restriction somewhere

water pump is also another suspect to check, might have a few blades busted off but then id suspect it would overheat on the gauge(providing gauge is working correctly)

Takes a good 15 mins for them to go hard.

Really is annoying, all are going as hard as each other too.

is it a tubby? or just the 1.6?

Standard 1.6 matey

That ratted off with it, i'm gonna renew the weaker pipes, and flog.

Never had this hassle with Peugeots and therefore going back to them.

306 GTi6 will do the job.

where in the uk are you? and how much?:hmm:

you could just yank the 1.6 out and go the whole hog on a transplant:clap:

did you check the water pump?

Everything works 100%, heaters, coolant temp, it's always had Forlife in it, and if the Haynes is right, it is 100% correct to build that pressure up and release if get throttled.

Just put full ticket on it too 1 week ago!

N Lincs btw m8 lol.

its each to their own mate, but do remember that your mk1 will be at least 18 years old, so may need a bit more tlc than a newer car like a gti6, id never buy a french car after working on them in a garage day in day out, but thats mostly cos i do my own servicing and repairs

Work at Toyota, so genuine bits are cheap enough, had a 2.0 8v xsi, didn't miss a beat!
