I've been off the boil recently with build threads due to some complete bastard hacking my PB account, but now things are back to normal here is a car i've been working on for the last few weeks in between all of the other builds...

It's getting the 1mz-fe treatment....

Thanks for putting up a thread Paul.

That shiny looking V6 is my christmas present to myself (our lass wont pick up the bill)

Been lurking around this site every day since Paul added me to his waiting list, reading threads and perving on conversion pics.

Now just cant wait to pic up the car to see hear and feel the difference from that old 3sge that was in there previously.

Thanks again Paul

it's a good thing it's not a 2gr, otherwise he may end up being Crisp Cringle.

Paul did say and I quote that he wanted this one "wrapped up" for Xmas........it would be rude (olph) of him not to.

Engine now in, nothing connected but at least in...

Steady progress, all plumbing now done including rad pipes, heater lines and fuel system. In fact almost everything is done in the engine bay itself.

Wiring now taking place...

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2012/12/143.jpg

After it is wired (approx 2 days work) there is just the exhaust left to do, but sadly i won't have this all wrapped up before Xmas, i did try!

At least you managed to finish mine before Christmas, lol.

It must have been your longest build to date, what with one thing and another, well except for your mk1 V8.

Maybe I should have waited until I had collected my car before writing that. Oh well. Lol.

Paul Woods

One of my longest customer builds was the V6 Elise, I hugely underestimated the amount of work that took. Yours was such a slow build because of the kit and extra exhaust work etc, everything just seemed to take twice as long, we got there though, wait until you hear it tomorrow!

No worries about it not being ready for xmas Paul........will at least save u a fair bit on wrapping paper anyway.

Really looking good in that engine bay now tho .

Wiring completed and engine running, no exhaust on it but running just to check my wiring was sound.

I'll pick this back up on the 2nd Jan and get the exhaust made for it.

Cheers Paul
Was you planning on keeping the decat on or not ?
I cant remember what we decided

Paul Woods

We said it was having no CAT fitted, but i can retain the DECAT pipe no problem.

Sounds like a plan to me ......just so the option is there for one if need be in the future.

Exhaust now finished and engine bay 99% complete, just need to wrap the wiring after testing.

I have also done a short video of it running from cold, so again a high idle, and once again the good old iphone gives horrible added sound effects which aren't there.

If you think you were even slightly obsessive about your car - prepare yourself - it's going to get worse :)

08-01-2013, 02:01
And later when you get bored of it fit the mighty 2gr lol.

But I'm biased hahaha enjoy it mate Paul does excellent work and you won't have it in the garage for long when the good weathers here again.

Hi Wayne, i'll need 3 or 4 days testing and coolant bleeding time once it comes off the lift, so it might be ready for collection this Saturday, let's see how it goes.

Waynowiggle

Ok cheers mate , just let us know when your happy with it and we will sort out a date

In the meantime I will give that vid some hits on youtube

Testing today up to temperature revealed that the fan switch on your radiator isn't working, so i had to stop testing until the new switch arrives which is now on order, you will not have noticed this before with normal driving because the Mr2 cooling system is so efficient, but if it had been allowed to stand in traffic on a hot summers day it would have overheated.

Hopefully get the switch tomorrow morning.

Paul,

I was wondering what MAF Adapter you are using?

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2013/01/75.jpg

Made out of the OEM airbox?

Paul Woods
09-01-2013, 20:40
Hi Vincent, yes that's made out of the original airbox, just cut the MAF housing off.

New rad switch fitted and everything back to normal now, the switch was a fortune at £30 but needs must.

First roadtest today and she is sweet, purrs along then dollops of torque on tap.

I'll need to continue testing for 3 days or so before collection.

Waynowiggle

£30 spent now is £000's saved in the future so no worries.

Guessing saturday collection is out of the window then........ Shouldnt be a problem to just take a day off work next week

Great to hear its running well........ Looking forward to that trip back down the A1 from Durham

Paul Woods

Waynowiggle
12-01-2013, 16:48
Yeh sure mate no worries......I can even do Thursday if you would prefer

Paul Woods
12-01-2013, 17:28

12-01-2013, 17:57

Now I need to fiddle around and re-invent the wheel.

So much "small" things I still gotta take care off.

Give it 50 miles to bed in then unleash the beast, seriously the bad weather is for this afternoon in Durham but the rest of the country it's forecast fine driving weather.

Well weather wasnt great for the trip back down the A1 today but the journey was made so much easier by having the v6 effortlessly eating up the motorway. Following the main man's advice i kept it around 70 all the way back, all dials and needles reading as normal and the 5th gear mod along with my mongoose backbox made for a very quiet smooth soundtrack from behind my head.*

Gettin off the motorway and hitting a couple of b roads and junctions near home i never took it above 3k revs but could feel the power urging to be unleashed. Its a good job it is only 5 min from the motorway to home otherwise i reckon i might have given in and planted my foot.

But its now back tooked up in the garage til the weekend when i will get it back out for a proper test drive (passenger seat tissues at the ready)

I must say the engine sounds lovely and i was also totally blown away when Paul lifted the hood to reveal the beast. I must have looked at pictures of it on here hundreds of times in the last few weeks but seeing it in person......wow!! Pauls workmanship really is second to none.......it was definitely worth both packs of hobnobs.

Really looking forward to gettin back behind the wheel again at weekend.........

Thanks again Paul (make that a virtual 4th shake of the hand today)
