Here is my take on this disaster of a project. so far i'm doing as much measurements before committing to any custom made parts. I already even figured out an extended Clutch release bearing (TOB) for it w/o going custom (w00t). Next in my list is to rape the EA gear box with the caliper tool and get the dimension off the bell housing flange and the existing mounting holes

I cleaned out the measurements for privacy issues, but so far its pretty accurate. With this i know how much to grind off the stub

All looks a bit scifi to me!

Top work!

im still short of some items, i sorta regret scrapping one of my e153 open diff as i could have used that to get the axle spacing on the turbo setup.... anyone have one of these out off the gear box? i just need the over all width end to end

Nice, close to the digits HUX gave me. Thanks now that the numbers are certain. how did you find that off their page? i need to look up another one to verify my other diff QDF27E

yeah it's not there even if i tried numerous pdf file names... perhaps it's still too new to be in there but i sent them an email regarding that.
Anyhow i crunched up the numbers and now know exactly where and how the axle sits compared to the Turbo setup, carrier bearing placement and all.
Funny how you can get these with just a few dials of a digit :) I've already devised 2 ways of doing it and a 3rd one for hi-power.

Will be interesting to see how this pans out, are you thinking of marketing this as a kit then?

oteck
11-11-2012, 13:46
I have no actual plans to... SolracRC might theres too many complications as is that it will never become a plug and play. The very same reason theres no such thing as a complete v6 kit w/o buying the whole car.

Truly a project for the DIY guys like the early v6 days

Just finished a draft on the bellhousing, one thing i need to figure out is the starter placement then maybe i can design a weld in flange

here's the E153 starter location. i included one bolt hole for the reference angle but of course it can be placed many other places. this will allow you to make a jig to weld the starter boss to the right location

oh and the starter depth from the mounting flange to the starter flange is 85.5mm deep

oteck

i'll have to verify that once i get my bellhousing.. crw taking his sweet time to send it to me.
Also splurged a little and bought a really tall TOB, only issue is it needs some machine work to fit our spline shaft as it's 35mm vs 35.5mm (E-series)

VS these 2 (avensis and mr2t)

what are you waiting on from CRW? are they doing something to your bellhousing?

oteck

stuff considered waste of money, cv joint spacers and strip the bellhousing off it's starter and clutch slave mount

well here some bad news :( the S54 speedometer ring doesn't fit the 69mm on quaife collar. The bore too small so i'll have to find another solution by either hacking it up or make a metal replacement

http://oteck.ca/sw20/Project/P66/speedometer%2001.JPG

Also picked up my super tall clutch release bearing but that will also need some tampering.

Got my new side mount piece, its profile is much lower so i hope it's good enough to clear the height difference between the E153. I may even have to partly fill the upper portion with more rubber of silicone.

Yeah thats a mysterious mount!

oteck
11-12-2012, 02:52
i can't disclose that one yet but for certain it's not an oem made mount. also no comment on the tob or the speedo ring gear not fitting? I'm sending some parts back but i found the proper ring and hopefuly that one fits and gets me close to my tire speed size

I finally got my E153 bell housing but from a different source and free :) Finalized the distance on the starter which was 170.5mm but more toward 170mm (i like solid numbers).

Also started over on the cad for the ea6. Alot of triangulation is involved and far from perfect, what im laking is a longer digital caliper to get the proper radius on the holes
http://oteck.ca/sw20/Project/P66/EA6x%20Bell%20housing.jpg

Lost abit of money when i bought the woodsports mount but shouldn't hurt too much when i sell it at cost. Really hate it when i thought i have a solution, a better one pops up.

I'm now trying to get the factory service manual for the gearbox so i don't screw up trying to break it open. If all else fail i'll have to get a euro TIS subscription....

It's a little odd that you're saying you're keeping information a secret in the same sentence as you're asking the community to share.

why not make it a two way street?

Guess it has more to do with it not working/ being tested yet and not wanting to send people in the wrong direction.... and yes the part number is in the picture ;)

i don't know, it sounds more like trying to steer people in the wrong direction:

for certain it's not an oem made mount

it may or may not work for this application. i was asking since it looks like a rather nice mount for other potential applications. it's hard to find compact mounts with large rubber isolators.

in fact, that looks like the exact same style isolator as the 3s-gte with a different bolt up method. it might be a good fit to allow me to make the 2gr-fe install kit not require grinding on the 3s-gte isolator.

sorry i mis worded it... it was an aftermarket piece so not really oem but a nicer copy of it. The one i saw on the bgb was metal brackets rather than cast

Got some small updates, fitted the new speedometer gear and goes right in. I have 2 sized gears for each side so i have to juggle which one will close match my new tire sizes.

http://oteck.ca/sw20/Project/P66/Quaife%20%2002.JPG
http://oteck.ca/sw20/Project/P66/Quaife%20%2003.JPG

Also got my TOB machined and now slides smoothly. I just need to get the overall height of a fully dressed flywheel to ensure my sizing is correct. If not i have another one thats slightly shorter. The plus side on this one is the plastic sleeve is longer so it can travel further than either the original E153 or EB6x.
