Right then, my cars mk2 91,
which the manual says the box wants ATF,
but the box had been replaced with a later one,
Think it was a rev3 not sure, was electric speedo
sensor.
Anyway, some places on net says the later cars weren't
specified to take ATF, which is odd as its the same box,
so.... what should I stick in it?

I have always used Redline MT-90 on my rev3. Its a 75W-90 GL-4 oil.

Looks like they specify gear oil for every year except
91, strange, but had better go that way.
Redlines a bit pricey mind.

Paula Woods. He uses a lot of lubrication.

And that stuff works fine. There's a local cheapy shop up the road from me and they sell that or sometimes gear oil (same brand) and that seems fine too.

A lot depends on what you're going to use your car for. Most of us just hoon around locally with the occasional jolly to an event and maybe the odd track day.

If that's the case, I really don't think issues like this require much soul searching.

However if your car is intended for a bit of racing / regular track day monster then spend a bit more.

We put ATF in Pats car (JapScrap) over 18 months ago / few thousand miles. My original suggestion was run it on that and then drop it and put 'decent' stuff in. I don't think he ever bothered. Seems happy enough.

do Ill orob just use what I can find cheapest.
