I thought it was about time that I put a project thread up……. Ok I know it has taken me over two years to do so. :icon_redface: It was really nice meeting some of you at the Jap Show and Jap Fast. In fact it was at the Jap Show that one TB member told me it was about time I put a thread up.

Before I talk about the car I would like to say thank you to: Dan, Adie and Paul Woods for their help and advice, this car would have never got finished without them.:thumbsup:
(Who said it's finished)

The car started as a standard NA, G Ltd MK2 Auto that I bought in London for just over £700. The interior was in very good condition, but the exterior had a dent in every single panel. I had the car re-sprayed and did some basic modifications. The car ran quite well until I took it on a long weekend to France and it decided to burn more oil than petrol. Dan a very good friend of mine who you all know persuaded me to have a V6 conversion. The next day I went out and bought the Camry with the 1- MZ engine in it.

The world’s first MR2 MK2 auto V6 1-MZ

If I explained what happened next, there would be about 100 pages to read through.

So they say a picture is worth a 1000 words, well here goes

Michael

Decided to use buttons to change up and down gear.

The positioning of the buttons have to be personalised to the driver to be faster than a universal paddle system.

We made a custom bracket out of aviation aluminium which is rigid; the last thing you want is any movement from the bracket.

And the icing on the cake, was Simon's flappy paddle system, the real making of the car.

Making TRD cross brace fit a 1-MZ

The TRD engine cross brace did not have enough clearance over the air intake manifold.
We overcame the problem by making these adapters to replace the nuts retaining the suspension.

I was going over the engine today just checking one or two things and decided there was too much blue silicon pipe on the induction kit.
3 hours later the induction kit had been modified with the airflow meter discreetly housed underneath in the stainless steel pipe.

Small modification on the windscreen wiper motor (I have only got one)
Made from solid block of aluminium with no joins, it hardly ways anything.

Much cooler than the original one painted in blue.

Good call. I had that ASH stuff on the roadster with a 45* bend on it. Under acceleration it was collapsing and strangling the engine. Replaced with a hard alloy elbow and it improved it no end.

There is quite a lot of work in making the bracket to hold the mirror; unless you do a lot of night driving it is not one of those “must have modifications”.

Good work on the alloy bits and this is one stunning car even the photos do not do this car justice, you have to see it in the flesh to soak in all the little details and one off parts.

Did you get out of third gear?

Once got it into 4th for about a nano second before going through the trap, best of the day was a 14 second at 107mph, just couldn't get traction plus it tried to swop ends and bunny hop when I gave it the beans the first time of the line, so shit me up a bit.

Next time I'm going to just floor it and short change straight to second gear as first can hit the rev limiter before you've gone 4 yards, what I need is a stinking hot day like today rather than the damp we had that day, then the track will be uber sticky.

It would be nice to hit Santa pod on a hot dry day, hopefully next time I go I will have the supercharger fitted and give it a couple runs.

I am off to the ring in Germany this coming weekend with the car, that should be interesting

one thing i must do is go to the ring that james may loves so much lol.

it would be good to go up against a supercharged v6 with the 2gr im going to the next japshow in september booked time off work for jae then going driving round the coast and then back to santa pod will definately give it the beans the next time.

you take care of that car i dont want to hear its been into the armco at the ring its just to nice a car to thrash to death.

Mike, I have to say that is one of the best MK2s I have ever seen. The attention to details is staggering.
:eek2:

Superb job on the engine bay by the way, all credit to Dan on the wire tucking. It looks like a lot of man hours have gone into making that all bling happen.

thank you, I wish I had kept a record of the number of hours.

I have still got lots of things I want to do, do not be surprised if the engine comes out yet again.
However this time it will be planned for some internal upgrading, a winter project

Had a power steering leak, I thought that I would get it fixed before Silverstone and JAE
Found the leak right on this joint, the annoying thing is that the rack is only just over a year old.
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2011/08/290.jpg

Now need to track down some power steering fluid (EHPS)
It is £25 from Toyota but they have not got any in stock until Saturday. I am wondering if I could use the Ford Focus EHP one instead.

Makes a change having the front of the car up in the air.

Going to tidy up the boot, as it will have a nice new ECU on display at some time in the future with some other bits.

Need a bit help on this urgently!!

Who made: front bumper bars, rear bumper bars and side skirts?

Someone is writing an article about the car (been requested not to say more than that, TB is spoken about).

They want to know who originally designed or manufactured the front and rear bumper bar and side skirts.

The company I purchased them from has disappeared. The only reference I can find is a order numbers and a reference to the rear bumper bar as “drift back”

Any ideas?

As already said, the gearbox is actually ideal. It needed to some extra power push through it to bring it to life.

Initially on the basic conversion it still occasionally reminded me of a V6 saloon type performance.

There is no doubt after introducing a paddle shift it started becoming more sporty.

Now with the supercharger it feels like a sports model full-time.

Now the paddle shift brings it into a different league.

I also think the supercharger is not as demanding on the gearbox as an over-sized Turbo would be.

Well, the car was in one piece for few weeks.

After fitting the Supercharger with the standard 220cc 1-MZ injectors the obvious thing happened, fuel starvation.

It was to be expected, so yesterday was spent fitting Supra Turbo injectors.

This quickly cured the fuel starvation and initially has given us the complete opposite.

The car is now running very rich with some big flames appearing occasionally from the exhaust system.

The car is sitting in the garage ready for its big operation .

The plan is to fit a Syvecs S6GP ECU for the engine management and Keep the Toyota ECU to run the paddle shift GCU.

The Supra Turbo fuel injectors are already fitted.

Fingers crossed :)

We still need to do a few modifications to the supercharger before final mapping.

Looks like we have also managed to lose the key immobiliser on the Toyota ECU, which is good thing.

The S6GP Syvecs ECU required a couple of extra sensors making some of the vacuum pipes very long.

To make things more efficient and tidy things up we made this vacuum manifold.

At the end of day we did away with nearly 1 m of vacuum pipe and that has got to be a good thing. :)

This bracket makes a nice home for the fuel sensor and the fuel pressure regulator.

“Basically”, I can now run various mixtures of methanol in the fuel and the ECU will make all the necessary adjustments.

Also, it should assist when I have to fill up with low-grade fuel in Europe.

Ok , we can now run methanol in the fuel, but what about putting it into the air intake as well ?

We have also installed a water /methanol injection system, injecting the mixture directly into the Supercharger. As what is now becoming “usual” we made a couple of modifications.

Instead of a single 250 jet that would supply the mixture before the Supercharger (Air to the SC), we are using two 126 jets to deliver the mix directly into the supercharger. This will distribute the mixture evenly and atomise the mixture more efficiently, hopefully this should bring the air intake temperature down more.

We have now added a 300psi solenoid to stop the supercharger sucking the water/methanol tank dry. (Even when it was not on boost, that was fun)

From the pictures, you can see how we modified the supercharger with the injectors at each end.

The boot is now filling up :) :)
