I am looking a preping my E153 gearbox for a 2gr conversion.

I want a nice low rpm cruising 5th gear that isn't too high to still pull to redline (if ever on a track with a long enough straight of course) but still want the acceleration of 1st-4th standard closer ratios.

Obviously the first thing i will do is change to the camry 3vz 3.625 final drive cog. That would bring 110kph down to 2650prm is 5th but, that still seems too high for my wanting as i will be doing plenty of hiway cruising.
I would like a cruising rpm similar to that of the 6th gear in the camry/aurion which is 2000rpm at 110kph.

Would a ratio like this still leave me with enough grunt to pull through to higher rpm ?

This is assuming my 2gr is fairly standard say 270rwhp, so anyone with 2gr driving experience might have some insight that can help me.

3000rpm is 83mph cruising speed on standard box in 5th gear and there's plenty of grunt still there, in 4th it does about 70mph at just under 3000 say 2850 I keep forgetting to change up to 5th.

On the drag strip 1/4 mile I have it in 3 and still accelerating to 100mph just before I go through the trap I'm shifting to 4th, I've not yet mastered how powerful this engine is it's like a handgrenade has just gone off behind you and thrown you up the track.

To get a 3000rpm at 83mph you must have a 3.625 final drive and 16/215/50 (or equivalent) tire size. i think ? forgot to mention i am planning on retaining my 15/205/50 for optimum handling

This is good but would like to be closer to 2500rpm at that speed, some very long hiways in Australia.

I wonder if the 6th gear cog out of camry tranny could fit in place of the e153 5th cog?

Got a gps for my car the other day and my speed calculations dont seem to add up, I am running 205/50/15 tires (55's on rear in fact but i will allow for wear and say 50's). At 3000 rpm's i am doing about 101 kph but should be doing about 105kph, i have always thought that i am running a normal turbo gen 3 box but this speed more matches the S54 with 55's (which i infact have) but i know i have the fatter axles and the box was notably heavy when we installed it.

So the possibilities could be that

A: my tacko is out by that exact percentage or
B: At some stage my GB has had its guts swapped out for the S54 internals and retained the thick axles and LSD :[ Is this possible does anyone know ?
