...Well, I'm atually getting Mr Woods to do it (hopefully in 3-4 weeks time)... but thought you might like to see some pics anyway of the car as it currently stands (with 4age still in); (heck everybody likes seeing pics right!?)

Been tinkering with cosmetics... so far swapped leather interior for cloth (leather had seen better days and the car is going to be used as a trackday car, so cloth is best); SC mirrored t-bar glass and the Team Dynamics... also have SC rear lights to go on soon and Paul is going to paint and fit an SC engine lid...

anyway....hope you enjoy...

Completely different project mate

Yep, going the 1mz route (and hopefully the alternative supercharger when he's designed it), LSD, 5th gear mod etc...

It already has uprated brakes (celica) and Koni springs and shocks allround.

Should be pretty :evil::evil: when finished... can't bloody wait to get v6 glory, to say I'm excited doesn't even come close!!!

Great choice, you wont regret it. The sound of the car afterwards makes it all worthwhile. I have not been in a MK1 V6, but judging by my Mk2 it will be stunning performance. You could not have left it in better hands either!

Time for an update, we have been hard at work preparing the 1mz for this build, it has Ferriday bi-metallic gaskets and we done a special job on the top cover that we have never done before, i think it looks pretty darn cool...

No movement of the rear fire wall required?

Paul Woods
22-05-2010, 08:41
Not on a 1mz mk1 Garbe, only the 3vz versions need the wall moving due to the awkward shape of the plenum.... a 1mz fits a Mk1 a lot nicer.

Paul Woods

Quick update:

Its dragged on a little this one due to lots of little mot repairs needing (oops!), including thanks going to one of the previous owners for putting brake hoses on the wrong way (front hoses on back, back hoses on front)) ... Paul's sorted it all though, and just tyres to go on the back and geometry settings to do.

I've booked my train tickets (£88!!! bl00dy rip-off!!) for Friday 2nd July to collect it!!!

Very excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

snowtigger
24-06-2010, 14:26
You could have flown cheaper mate, it cost me that from kings Lynn to Stockport robbing bar-stewards on the train by air Manchester to London return £90 on easy jet.

Moustachio
24-06-2010, 14:56
Its about comparative I found. Cheapest flight was £52, but I'd still need to travel to Cardiff and obviously from Newcastle to Durham....

It would be marginaly cheaper, but less faff/easier on the trains (assuming they turn up/don't get delayed etc!)

I might add though I had to book each train ticket individually, if I'd have just booked one ticket it would have cost £103! Madness

Well folks it didn't go quite as smoothly as I hoped.. but I guess that’s what happens when you use public transport... got stuck in Darlington for an hour and a half while they tried to talk some nutter down from the via duct in Durham...

but I got there in the end ...

The car, well, it’s awesome! Really pleased with the supercharger lid... first thing I noticed as I approached the car for the first time in 2 months... was really impressed with how much time they’d obviously spent polishing and detailing the car inside and out... it was immaculately clean! The next thing I noticed was the magnex exhaust, and was pleased to see Paul had altered the rear valence so that there was symmetry for the twin exit. The engine lid was lifted and the work of art that now sits in my engine bay is really something to behold. I'm also loving the stock interior, Paul did a great job of calibrating the dials, so sitting in the car there is no clue as to the thunder behind you! I'll get some pics soon, but it needs another clean after about 400 miles of driving... as a quick run-down... basically the power is on a par easily with a Turbo Impreza I used to own... and noise (although actually quite restrained due to the use of a magnex) is fantastic.. not chavvy loud but when you open it up the v6 just sings and certainly attracts some surprised looks! You’re certainly aware that it’s behind you as you can hear the intake sucking in gallons of air! I've not opened it up fully yet either... (I've kept it under 4000rpm so far). I’m glad I had the Woodsport rad upgrade... I was stuck in horrendous stand-still traffic, M1, M62 etc... and it was a scorchingly hot day, the temp gauge didn’t move from just below the halfway point (watch this space for track use). As instructed I took it very easy for the first 200 miles to Shrewsbury (was stopping overnight at my folks) but I had to turn the fuel pressure down quite a bit as the first 56 miles saw half a tank gone :O, and it was obviously running very rich due to the smell of petrol fumes...(combination of rich-running for running a new engine in and the wallbro pump firing gallons of fuel in at a time), So after the first 200 miles of running it in...I turned the pressure down...I got just over a 100 miles to half a tank yesterday running 1.5 bar (as opposed to 3.5), but there was a fair bit of spirited driving involved ;) I seem to remebr getting about 280 to a tank from the 4age, so its probably niot far off given there's two extra cylinders to feed.

So what do other people get fuel-wise on a 1mz-fe in a mk1?

Overall, it’s an awesome conversion to get done... and I’m very happy... (my god the Astra was a come down this morning commuting to work!!) utterly transforms the car performance wise (I can’t even begin to imagine how quick a 2gr is!), power to match the looks imo, but you never feel it’s too much for the car, and the car feels more planted, not heavier just planted, which could also be a result of the battery up front, the LSD as well as the different engine.

...oh and I love starting it up as well... love the sound of the 6 cylinders springing into life in turn 

Moustachio

Bit late after the event writing this, as I was hoping for some vids which unfortunately haven't materialised... anyway...

Apart from one hose and two turkish baths the conversion really stood up to the track abuse... the alloy rad upgrade really performed well... and the pace of the car is fantastic, was overtaking skylines, caterhams etc! I've now replaced the offending hose (note that this hose has been fine for normal/spirited road use), with a Samco... so I'll see how that lasts at the next trackday I have booked at Castle Combe.

The only downside is my brakes... so I've been ordering new discs and yellowstuff pads (which I hoping will fit after some modification). Will let you know how that turns out.

Cosmetically... I've finally fitted the sC rear lights... pic taken at Retro Rides Gathering last weekend...

Very helpful pics there. Been thinking of using my existing plumbing and backbox for the 3VZ-FE MR2 MK2 conversion, had ruled it out originally as I though the final exit tail pipe diameter might be too titchy (where it exits the main back box). It'd be great just to have the reworked or new Y section.

The pic above shows similar diameter to mine (pic of mine upside down, below)- can I ask what's the performance like with Moustachio's exhaust??

Well I do like a bit of driveway mechanics!

Put on new rotors and redstuff pads (for the front they are for a Subaru and require modifying to the bottom edge to meet the profile of the carrier (ST165 calipers)...) didn't all go well though hence n/s rear carrier required ... why is it always the last fekking bolt! Put Yellowstuff on back.. hope I don't upset the braking too much with different pads. All good fun. God knows what my new neighbours think.. they only moved in last week ;D

Moustachio
08-10-2012, 20:23
289.2bhp, 257.2ft/lb at the wheels :)

stock boost of 7/8psi. standard pulley size... so plenty to come, but I'll need to think about internals before that!

Its an absolute monster on track and the noise is out of this world (sounds like a jet!) :)

Well worth doing.

Sorry, don't have many build photos as they were all on my work pc and one weekend last month work decided to bin my pc and move me to a cloud type server :(

oh no sorry to hear about the loss of pics!

Thats perfect power honestly, especially at the stock pulley size, i have heard on many of sites that the most efficient setup is running about 9.5 lbs. That would easily put you over 300 hp.

Are all those numbers prior to intercooling??? If not what intercooler setup are you running?

The sounds are certainly amazing, exactly what im looking for in a build but ill be tackling it with a 3vzfe and will be building the motor prior to install so i hope to be able to push the stock v5f to its max at around 14psi :)

Thank you, your build is just wonderful!!!!!
