Clutch problem, advice please!

I bought the car just after xmas all working fine.

Was driving along yesterday in 5th gear put my foot down to overtake and when the revs hit 3.5k the engine raced for a bit as tho the clutch was slipping.

The car pulls away from stand still no prob's, thru 1st 2nd and 3rd no problem till i get to 4 and 5 then it slips.

I have not been out today to see if it does it again because of weather.

Is it time for a new clutch? the car has 56k on the clock.

Definatly sounds like you have the first stages of a dying clutch, you don't get the problem in lower gears because it's easier to turn the wheels. If you press the brake at the same time as accelerating, or while driving up a steep hill you could probably get it to slip in 3rd.
You can keep drving it for a bit longer, but certainly something you need to look into changing in the near future.

Yea, as above. It'll get gradually worse and worse - as the engine is under more load, the clutch will fail quicker and quicker...

Same thing happened to me in my MKIII. I ripped out the clutch and the disc was all worn out. Replaced the clutch and all was well.
