I've just realised that I've never started a build thread on here so thought I should. It's not as if a lot has happened yet but anywho...

I originally sold my rev3 turbo with the intention of buying/building a mk1.5 and after shopping around for a while I took this as part-ex for the turbo:

And with the left overs I bought this Rev1 Turbo:

That's basically where things stayed, the mk2 was still taxed and MOTd so I lent it to my old man for a couple of months until he finds a new one for himself. so I've basically just been having fun and enjoying the NA

North Weald:

RAF Woodbridge:

Brands Hatch:

Until BSM had to get rid of his mk1.5 converted shell, so Tiny convinced me that he can collect it in the back of a LWB luton that he had hired:

So the gold one is staying in one piece for now and the red one is taking the Rev1 engine. The Turbo is now back on my driveway and I'm ready to start the swap.... Time to start making a shopping list.

The idea now is to get the swap completed by end of march, get on track with both cars and decide if a 1.5 is what I really want. If it is I'll either sell the gold one and do the bodywork on the redone or more likely convert the Gold one to a 1.5 too

Don't see many of these anymore!

Looking forward to a good build here. Definitely do the gold one, it'd be helluva rare.

Progress...

This weekend, my aim was to get the engine out of the mk2 and get it ready for scrapping... Mission accomplished :-D

And to prove that we all stuck to Health and safety guidelines:

So now I just need to remove the doors, bonnet, engine cover and boot lid and then she get shipped to the great scrapheap in the sky (Well, Dorking)

Now to start servicing the engine

I bought the car off of a guy who found out it was a Cat B when he came to sell it, needless to say, the car has almost paid for itself in parts :)

LOL!

I forgot to undo a fuel line, and it was the only way I could reach it.

It wasnt the safest engine drop in the world, crane standing on a drain cover, the car rolling whilst on the crane etc etc. killed a probe thogh so all good

No doubt an over-enthusiastic use of one of these would've been safer:

:woc:

lol

(Edit: though probably not with an exposed fuel line!!)

Thanks for the reminder :slap:

Hopefully the shoppinglist is almost complete.
CV boots ordered.
Alternator bracket ordered

Just need a bit more research on the Chargecooler and then will get the rad(s) ordered for that and we should be away. (Does a Cinq rad fit a 1a? seems inconclusive)

Thankfully I have the week of the 9th off so should have the engine back in place and will start coupling everything back up again.
