Turbo Hayabusa powered, hopefully around 450 hp, somewhere close to 600 kgs...and a whole heap of fun!

600kilos is helluva target and good luck on that one! will be awesoem project and I kno the busa engine well and big cc over here do turbo is up to the 600bhp mark for it and the guys near silverstone will superharge i with good results too. One thin I would say on the busa engine is go for the older ones as the new ones (ie late 07 onwards) are not good for tuning or forced induction and the older engine is the one to use. Cant wait to see the results of this as gonna do something new with the mini this autumn and wieght wil be on of the things to look at on it but not much left to lose/reduce apart from seats as nowt else left and only a few kilos to lose from the interior after the seats go. Only glass left is the windscreen fibeglass or cabon doors wont be huge saving over the guted standard doors which are now just skins so really scratching head to see what else can be reduced now.

Think if you get this down to 600kos will be an amazing machine as hat engine is very flexible when charged.

Don't know about this but, these guys http://www.powertecengineering.com/drive_solutions_home.php used to build my racing sidecar engines and they also produce the Radical sports cars. They have a solution to removing the chain aspect of your build, if thats an option you might desire. Although it would be added weight. Just some info for you.

700bhp from a 1.3ltr lump is just a ticking time bomb and purely for drag racing I'd say. 400-450bhp would be plety in a 600kg car.

Hayabusa engines are awesome tools, the abuse they can handle is immense. There are a few reliable 500hp ones floating about I just think 700 would be nuts.

Sort of glad I never bought the supercharged hayabusa I saw a while back, think the engine might have been removed to go in something else eventually :) That one had 257bhp at the rear wheel.

I'm looking forward to the end of this swap, is gonna sound nuts :)

We believe (hope) that 600kg is achievable, remember that these only weigh around 1000kg totally standard. We have some fibreglass panels at this stage, but some will also initially be carbon and more once we have the body sorted.
To minimise weight we have (are) cut away all the unnecessary reinforcing including the sills, (which are very heavy & multi layered to make up for the lost strength in not having a roof) all the reinforcing around the windscreen A pillars, seat mounts, inner guards etc etc, even as far as cutting off the chassis rails at the shortest possible point past the suspension pickups...

700hp would be nice but we are after reliability, so are looking for 450ish. We have two engines and plan to build two complete rear subframes that house the engine, drivetrain etc so can easily swap the whole lot if we encounter a problem...or maybee a qualifying & race engine... :driving:

traditionally the falcon is an australian made car...but marketed in NZ Aus...and sometimes in south africa...

as we know...the big car companies market the same vehicle in different countries with different names....Holden monaro(AUS/NZ)/pontiac GTO(US) is one of the first that springs to mind at the moment

and if any other country is claiming the "kiwi" as their iconic critter....Ill kick em all in the teeth;)

Not much visable progress on the project at this stage. Have the subframe that holds the engine etc, all made & mounted. It will also be used to mount the suspension pick-up points. The suspension points have been designed & drawn by a top race car engineer in NZ, so we are just making sure they are all 100% correct.
Recently had the car on the scales and bodyshell, engine, gearbox & "diff" weigh a total of just under 250kg, which is pretty much on track considering there is still some weight to come out of/off the shell itself...
