I'm still collecting parts but theparts have started to arrive....finally, so would this be a Mk3.8 ?
However I still dont yet have a chassis / donor ! So in all reality I havent got that far :blabla:

Mk3 - PURCHASED !!!!!!!
Engine - Audi 4.2 V8 AHC -250KW GOT IT
Box - Audi 2.5 tdi six speed - GOT IT
Exhaust - ferrari 360 system - GOT IT
Ignition system - Emerald 3d - not yet
Traction control - racelogic - not yet
Lots of steel - GOT IT
Driveshafts - 2.5 tdi's - GOT IT
Brake upgrade - S8 brake system with hubs disks and calipers - GOT IT

Once I get the donor, I'll get started and I'll probably post weekly as it wont be a fast build.

Will the ratios on the TDi box not be a little long? Even so, great potential here!

14-07-2008, 14:49
They might be a bit long but the V8 produces a little more torque than the TDI, so it should still shift through em. If its too much I'll get a 2.0 tdi box.

Cool thanks Paul

Still looking for a shell though !

14-07-2008, 16:53
I'm still keeping my ear to the ground over on ROC, just in case a member with a duff engine decides to call it quits.

15-07-2008, 08:13
Cheers Nigel, even a scrap shell would do as a proof of concept but the scrappies aren't allowed to sell them due to the 'cut and shut' issue

maybe best bet is find a potentially unofficial breaker on ebay, such as

favourite search string:
mr2 (mk3, roadster) (spares, breaking, parts)

It might be handy , if going for the shell idea, to get one that has rear suspension in place, so you can line up the driveshafts etc.
This promises to be very interesting indeed.

now this is a project i cant wait to see get started..im getting mk3 urges..

Thanks Tom, tried these guys, one doesnt have a shell and the other wanted a grand !

I'd like to hear your definition of interesting Nigel ;o)

cheers for now

15-07-2008, 20:48
I reckon you'll rewrite my definition of interesting with this Paul.
Breakers are cetainly charging for the shell, considering I've seen duff engined roadsters in the past going for 2.5k or so. that's what I'm watching out for, though when you're after one, they never seem to turn up!

Paul, I saw this and thought of you....

Cheers nigel,
have you seen the back end of the car, I bet that was interesting 30 seconds, lol, no wonder its a cat C

20-07-2008, 22:05
Bet he didn't know whether he was coming or going! Least the passenger compartment is intact. I thought that might be suitable, as the back will be pretty much custom anyway.

Just had a quick chat to a chap about driveshafts, he was sying that the audi driveshafts are good for up to 15 degrees of angle, he thougth they'd take some of the lifespan out of them but only a quarter or so.

If thats correct this would mean I could move the engine back and gain about 150mm
Any thoughts chaps?

This is what the shell looked like before being stripped, as you can see it had an engine bay fire, but I've had a look inside and looks OK

Oh and here's the gearbox

Gearbox total length is 650mm and the bell housing to outpushaft centreline is 180mm sonice and compact

ready and waiting

Excellent news... can't wait to see this come together! :)

17-08-2008, 17:53
mated the box and engine today, got about 7 bolts in their so should be plenty to hold it together.
When I get the shell I think I'll start a 'formal' build thread
