I sold it last weekend chaps, I just didn't know how to tell you lot, I had to face reality I was not going to finish it.

Please don't hate me for selling, I need to slim my projects down to just one car so it had to go.

Sorry.

You twat...I am looking for a economical daily driver as well, you could have said you were selling.
I see from the PH advert car is currently in the process of being painted...that old chestnut

That explains why you are putting a 2gr in your red mk1. You are a busy man Paul, takes a lot to realise what can be achieved in the time you have available. You will still have the best mk1 there is.

snowtigger
18-04-2013, 13:31
I think Paul has too many projects and toys and can't drive or ride them all, plus if you have 2 300bhp+ mk1 mr2 when are you going to drive them both at the same time?

I bet he will shed some light as to why but my money's on time and energy, you can't build cars for customers and wait several years to be in a mk1 yourself plus he's proved you can do it and no ones fitted a 2gr into a mk1 yet so he's proving that can be done lol.

We have all been in the same boat mate don't worry your self get the 2gr installed and enjoy some summer hooning in your iMaculate red v6, I'm still fooking jealous you twat but hey I'll get over it hahaha.
If I had the dosh I would buy the v8 fit an rs 4 and supercharge it or twin turbo but I'm mental and need constant medication.

No mate you have a 2gr mk1 to finish then go and enjoy it, I had a few projects before the mr2 came along and I quickly realised you have to concentrate on one thing only not several as your throwing money at them all and none of them were getting finished (put all your eggs into one basket as my granny says) I know the pain of parting with a long term project my triumph vittesse has to go and the rover v8, but needs must when the devil drives.

I have to find the money for these koni shocks lol.

What the football team you support or sell the car? You made a decision mate, it's done now. You have a cracking mk1, focus on that get it finished. As Tiggs says enjoy it, instead of having your head in an engine bay all the time. Hell we know it can't have been an easy decision but when were you going to get the time to finish it.

nik
18-04-2013, 16:20
you did the right thing for you mate, but you should have said it was being sold so somebody on here might have had a punt for it instead of somebody wanting a quick turnaround and a substantial profit but hey.
would have loved to see it finished and on the road just to see what a monster it was but who know where she'll go now.
at least you have space and time to finish your spanky red mk1 now without worrying about neglecting the v8 project.

I'm sorry folks, I made an on the spot decision, I have been under a lot of pressure to try and finish the car but have had absolutely no time to devote to it, it was getting me down watching it deteriorate with so many customers cars to do and people always asking when it was going to be finished. My thinking was I could devote what time I do have into the red one which is a much more achieveable goal for JAE. I'm tired of always working on them and never getting a chance to enjoy them at shows like everyone else does, I've built hundreds of customers cars and I would just like one finished show worthy car for myself, even if it doesn't get driven much, just to be able to have something to drive to meets/shows etc would be like a lottery win for me right now. I only built it to prove it could be done, after a lot of people (not here) said it was impossible, if i'm honest I kind of lost my mojo with it after I drove it and had proved the point, it was never going to be a car you could use on the road with any degree of comfort. It still needed a lot of work, and time I just couldn't give it, I had £10k in that car, a hell of a lot just to prove a point! And hundreds of man hours just to get it to that point. In short I just had enough trying to find time to commit to it, an offer was made and I accepted, I still don't know if I made the right choice, and in hindsight I should have offered it here first, so for that I apologise.

I reached a point a while back where i just realised that I was going to have to put tons of time and money into a project car, only to end up with something that would be massively compromised if I ever did get it finished. Broke it, sold the bits, and bought something just as fast but 1/10th of the hassle-factor. (600bhp Mk3 Supra to a Fisher Fury if you're interested!) Your red car will be all the MR2 you'll ever need - if you really need a V8 in your life get a classic RWD Celica and put a 1UZ in it! :D

18-04-2013, 21:30
I can't actually believe you apologised Paul. That was your project and you got further than anyone here could have done. You not only proved a point but ran a business whilst doing it.

I take my hat off to you mate but it's already been said, work on the red 2GR, get it on the road for JAE, enjoy driving it and get pissed with us lot knowing that you've achieved something special.

It's people like you that push the boundaries of engineering so far that it is forced to advance for the benefit of EVERYONE.

Well done that man!!! :praise2:

most of us have been to the point of despair, i have (as you all know). i for one will be over the chuffing moon to see you at jae with a mk1!!!!!!!! and a corker at that..
it wasnt meant to be, will probably be broken though i hope not. mainly sorry for you bud, all that work to just see someone try to turn a profit...pisses me off.

I know it's on a different scale, but I had to sell off a couple of projects a while back.

It just gets to the point where you get a bit daunted so you need to clear down.

Look forwards not backwards.

Now you can focus on one project so we can all give you stick about that instead!!!

well i cant say i'm disapointed as i was wondering what that thing would be like (a handful), but its a brave man who can realise what he can actualy do with his resources and more importantly whats the most effective thing he wants to do. after all i'm just a bloody spectator, its YOUR money time & energy and the hundreds of customers cars do all the proving and bragging so now get a good un for yerself.

there was loads of things i was enthused about doing with mine, luckily the treasury hasnt been forthcoming and now i realise i like what ive got, it will do for now!

I'm going to stick my neck out here and say I quite like it, would like to see it in the flesh, Pauls bodywork looks ace now it's got paint on, I think if Paul had made the rear wing in that rs200 style it would have been executed better though

b4wrc
10-06-2013, 08:20
The rear wing is actually agroup B Opel Manta 400 rear wing/spoiler that has been raised by moulding an extention onto the bottom to raise it so that it 'fits' the Mr2 boot.
